BBC news website

Pages have become eight times longer due to the amount of space between the text. Did the paragraphs always used to be this short?

You're welcome. :)

What a silly comment though? Of course we know the BBC site has millions of viewers. But 1500 comments (1700 now) is a lot relative to typical numbers who comment on articles - and many of those said they registered today just to voice their dismay at the new look.

I see no reason not to believe that this isn't in any way representative of the readership as a whole.

There is always going to be a lot of people who will complain purely because they don't like change, and you can guarantee that there will be even more the next time it changes. (See Facebook as a recurring example of this) Will it stop them using the site? Of course not. Personally I think it's a change for the better. It was long overdue a change as it was looking very dated.

Except people aren't complaining because it is different, they are complaining because it is worse. Demonstrably so.

Long overdue a change? They only changed it from the prior design, a year or so ago!

On the old site you could put your postcode in and see a summary of news for your local area on the main news page, I was also able to add headlines from my selected sports team. It's this latter functionality that seems to have gone missing on the new site.

Also, on the main BBC homepage (not the news site), the page editor doesn't work in Opera, I can't drag the windows around,

Does anyone know where I can find the 'have your say' link? It used to be on the front page on the old navigation bar but I can't seem to find it on the new page.

On the very main page, you have the menu at the top (Home, World, UK, England etc) when you're on the Home tab, there's a separate menu below which has 'Have Your Say'

Or the direct link... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/default.stm

I'm not convinced either - and I'm not a change hater.

As soon as I saw it, I thought "Generic USA news site". Shame, the old one was rather nice.

For some reason I hate the "Top Stories" bit without any dividers (no bullets or line rules in between story headlines)
