BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

Wow.. never saw that coming..

After seeing the ludicrous cost of F1 to the broadcasters, the fact we are getting 50% of the races still on the BBC live, then it's stomachable, better then nothing at all..

I already have SKY+ HD, with everything but sports, it's going to cost £10 a month roughly to add whichever sky sports channel it's on (or both for £12), so £5-6 a race and the oppertunity to watch some other sports doesn't sound too bad.. but not everyone has Sky..

Sky confirm advert free?

Awesome! M'on the sky TV!! well I'm officially happy about this.

Just think it could have went to ITV, channel 4 or worse channel 5.

Brundle doesn't like this news. Can't see him going to Sky, based on this tweet.

Maybe I'm overly cynical, but that tweet it vague enough to be irrelevant - he doesn't say what he's not impressed with. It's quite clever really, give the fans the impression you're against this decision while at the same time don't say anything that couldn't be ignored from potential future employers. He could sign a deal with Sky and say he was referring to the BBC's handling of the announcement.

I wonder if Sky will show it in 1080p?

Doubt it, Sky broadcast all HD in 1080i.

We've currently got Sky sports HD and it's definitely worth the money if you are a big sports fan, the Sky coverage should be top quality, but I can empathise with those that aren't interested in fuelling the profit margins.

That and by next season I'll probably be living somewhere without it.. then I'll be just as vehement.

Well, i won't be watching it next year as i don't have Sky.

I wonder if F1 viewing figures will go down now?

I've loved F1 since I was about 10 yrs old. This is a real blow as I cannot justify getting Sky just for F1 :(

The exact same as me mate. I haven't looked at another sport since I was 10, F1 is an obsession for me rather than a casual viewing. In saying that , I won't be getting Sky or any other TV package because I simply won't watch anything on it, so paying to watch 10 races is just a no go. I'm properly gutted. These last few years of coverage on the BBC has been nothing short of awesome!.

I'm sure some kind soul will have a torrent of the ones from Sky. I thank you in advance for that.

BBC and Sky sharing F1 rights between 2012 and 2018.

Sky will show every race, qualifying and practice session live. The BBC will show half the races live and will show every session from those GPs.

You can bet too the BBC races will only relay the F1 feed with commentary, rather than the huge build-up/post-race presentation they have now.

If I can't get a stream I'll go without, F1 is good entertainment for normal television but I wouldn't say it was 'worth' paying Sky's charges to watch it.

It's pretty sad the way that Sky are monopolizing televised sports in the UK, we used to get cricket test matches and the lot on BBC eventually Sky will have it all.

Im done with F1 now.

The public interest in F1 is going to hit rock bottom now. People with only a passing interest (like many of my mates) wont get to see it anymore. Im soooo angry

Why £61 a race, that's £122 a month based on the simplified assumption that you get 2 races a month on average..

No, 10 races are on BBC, therefore you only decide by 10.
So 12 months of subscription divided by £10 is 61 a race.

Even if BBC wasn't showing any £30 per race is extortionate.
Many of us don't won't watch all the other guff, I have no interest in watching any other sport. And I'm planning on ditching subscription tv fully next year.

I'm selling my car as I can't justify running it and they won't us to all subscribe to hundreds of sky channels just to watch 10 races a year.

I really don't understand this decision - Ecclestone has always said he doesn't want F1 aired on pay-to-view TV as it reduces the audience for the sponsors, having it on free-to-view was in fact always a major selling point for the teams to their sponsors.

Just don't get it.
