BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

What is wrong with the £31.75 a month for the Entertainment + Skysports package, and that includes IIRC the SKY+, so you get a top notch PVR, sky anytime, remote record and a shedload of normal TV channels..

Nothing wrong with, but many people don't won't all that.
So you are paying all that for 10 races.

That's what most of us are unhappy about. Many have said we wouldn't mind paying. It's the cost just to watch f1.

It's not good value-for-money if there's only one thing you actually want to watch.

I think we need to put some clarity on this. We are F1 fans, so clearly we are not going to be happy about this.

This does not mean we think F1 deserves special treatment.

I like watching a bit of Cricket, so when that all went to Sky I was annoyed.

I'm not a football fan, but If I was I would be annoyed at large numbers of games being on Sky

F1 is just another situation of the same. In a forum full of fans you are clearly going to get opinions biast towards being unhappy.

listen to your self, REALLY?

They don't,they just don't want to spend £50+ per race.

Why didn't the government protect f1 under EU regulations in 2009, when it was discussed.

That would appear to me to be asking for special treatment.

There's also the way f1 works, the promises. And that England is home of f1.

And Scotland is the home of golf but you don't see golf fans up in arms over the European and PGA tours being predominantly broadcast on Sky.

Nothing wrong with that at all, but you should probably add an extra £10 on for HD since F1 is worth watching in HD imo.

nydryl, aren't the Olympics only broadcast on the BBC? I don't recall seeing any coverage on non-BBC services last time round.

.

It's not specific special treatment for f1, it's a law that can be used on any sport deemed worthy.

And how many £100s of million teams are hosted in Scotland and attract the best technical people.
Or require sponsorship to survive in the same way as f1.

Remember f1 has a certain model and all the promises as well.

LOL WUT?

I think you will find large numbers of people annoyed about <insert specific individuals favorate sport here> being shown on Sky.

Btw, those 'gold standard, protected sports' included the Ashes, which has gone to Sky, so it just shows how worthless the supposed 'special treatment' is.

That's different, Scotland is the home of Golf in a sense that it's where it was invented.

GB is where F1 was invented and a lot of the major (including none UK teams) are based. There is active development and employment in the UK (and around the world of UK personel) in motor racing, especially F1.

If you look at all the top teams you will find at least one brit high up in each of them.

Looking at the criteria, F1 was suitable to be protected
It is a pre-eminent national or international event in the sport
It involves the national team or national representatives in the sport concerned
It is likely to command a large television audience
It has a history of being broadcast live of free-to-air services

Because the golf fans are clever enough to realise that if Sky weren't broadcasting it, then nobody would. They are grateful it's being broadcast at all, even if it costs money.

The cost of it going to Sky I could actually afford to go to a race for... so I can either chose to go to a race, or watch the season live. Not happy about this.

Clearly in disagreement with the majority of people in here, which isn't suprising given it's in Motorsport. It's a shame F1 has been lost to Sky but ultimately that's the way sport in general is going. Ideally everything would be free-to-air but it isn't and I see no reason why F1 should be an exception to the rule.

Question on one of my earlier posts - if youve decided either not to follow F1 on TV or not to get access to the full season would you ever consider going to a F1 race?

Im finding it hard to say yes - Ive been to a few already so used to the spectacle, just seems pointless if you dont have the seasonal context too...

No, for the same reason that I won't purchase the Sky coverage - I simply can't afford it. Seeing as I wouldn't be watching any of the races, going to one (and really, I've only ever wanted to go to Spa anyway) just wouldn't make any sense to me. I can spend £500-1000 on something far more useful, really. :/
