BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

I doubt many people will subscribe just to watch F1.

As much as many people are saying this now, I suspect the reality of the start of the 2012 season may see a different story.

Especially as Sky would be stupid not to do some sort of first year offer on Sky Sports near the start of the new season to get as many people as possible to cave in eventually.

I'm not really pro-SKY. I don't watch much telly...it usually runs in the background most of the time. For this reason, I have never had any interest in getting SKY. F1 though - I give my full attention.

HOWEVER, if SKY ran an offer next year, as much as I hate shelling out just for F1, I think I may take the plunge.

Im gutted over this as I feel the beeb had really nailed F1 coverage to the point where I would spend the week looking forward to each race weekend.
Now I have to cave and add a sky package to my VM subscription, Id resisted getting one for the footy as I would go down the pub if I wanted to see a match, but I cant see F1 working in a pub setting tbh, so it looks like I will be forced to give Murdoch money :-(

It's like anything - when it's a distant prospect with no actual direct immediate effect people are hugely principled and stubborn.

When it's a month away from race 1 and they're actually facing the prospect of not being able to watch the F1 properly that year... suddenly peoples principles start to slide a bit.

I would have been interested to know the BBCs cost breakdown - as nice as the pre and post show is, I would rather they had every qualifying session and race with no free practice and minimal pre and post show bumpf, possibly even a studio based team back in the UK for most of it, than just half the races.

Yeah, looks like there is going to be some backlash over this - can't say I have ever seen so much anger at anything the BBC have done.. !

Vote early! Vote often! . . . use different Internet connections, email addresses and names of course ;)

I would still advocate writing TODAY to your MP, pointing out that many F1 teams are based in the UK and that many British engineers work in F1, highlighting our technical prowess - Write To Them Remember it is the MPs that have forced these cuts on the BBC and have until recently been so keen to curry favour with Murdoch.

The BBC complaints form can be found HERE.

I suspect that none of this will make any difference but it doesn't take long and can't do any harm either :)

Stand up and be counted!

The contract will already have been signed before the announcement.

I sincerely hope that this really hurts F1 and that all involved realise what a stupid idea it was.

I can't believe it could have been a shard deal with Channel 4 as well instead of SKY! That would have been great.

CH4 show many more programs I'd actually watch over ITV anyway.

Also if you do need sky sports 1 + 2 to catch all the races.

It works out at something like £30 a race! No thanks.

Channel 4 did a great job with the cricket I thought, unlike Sky who have basically killed off a lot of interest in the sport.

With regards to DC and Martin, during the race this may mean they cant mention anything that has happened on either pre show, as not to confuse fans, Brundle talks about upcoming features, so will he not be able to say that?

This sounds messy, what if Sky want Martin and DC to come to thier tent instead of BBC?

Sky paid the likes of Andy Gray et all millions of pounds a year so I have no doubt they will poach Brundle for a massive figure. I cant help feel Sky will be a return to itv levels of coverage quality sans adverts.

Signed petition - done.

Commented on Ben Gallops blog - done.

I think that the BBC under estimated the the F1 community which they helped to create.

I find an alternative way to watch F1 with out using sky.

I thought I'd express my opinion of this news with::mad:

I'm a student, I'm not going to be able to afford Sky Sports in my house next year! So now I face the prospect of missing half the races! Bullpoop. I see myself as a pretty loyal F1 fan, I'm sure there are many more loyal F1 fans who are going to have to put up with missing half the races!

I see the arguments about most other sports already being in a similar situation where you need Sky to watch everything... but I don't see how moving to Sky can be anything but a bad thing for the sport. I can see viewers dropping quite drastically.
