BBC set to drop Neighbours

I'm sure I remember reading that the amount of people who watch Neighbours in the Uk is greater than the entire population of Australia. Go figure.

As Australia has a population of 21million, I highly doubt it.

And £70K an episode might sound a lot but it is probably quite cheap compared to making your own show to fill that slot, especially when it is shown twice so it is effectively £35K per showing.

The company behind Neighbours also stated they wanted to bring in new changes to the show to improve it including HD rights etc. They're not going to do that on £35k per showing and it seems the BBC are just crying as ITV have outbid them again.

It's very cheap compared to what some companies are paying for content, if memory serves Sky are reported to be currently paying close to a million pounds an episode for some of their content (and getting a lot less viewers than the BBC are for neighbours).

Only students watch it these days anyway.

Its not like it used to be when "everyone" watched it ;)

Awesome

Now only hollyoaks, emmerdale, doctors etc etc etc to get rid of

Leave coronation street and eastenders, though i hate them, at least they have the occasional decent actor in them.

EDIT - had a quick read through, and ITV might buy it

WHY... make proper dramas etc that are actually good, or buy new movies instead of repeat showings of james bond and die hard constantly :(

They should just make it all cg and be done with it :D

Bring back madge and harold and make them fight with lightsabers...

I'd be happy with BBC dropping Neighbours.

1. Its rubbish and always has been.
2. They might replace it with something a little better.

Perhaps a program about finding something old in your attic, and how to sell it?

Seeing as I have a job (students, have a look here) I haven't watched it for a very long time. I'm pretty sure it loses it's appeal after the age or 18 anyway.

And there was me thinking they were going to ditch the program because if its content, or rather lack thereof.
Instead it's because they are being charged too much for it

What a world, eh?
