BBC set to drop Neighbours

i hate the show but love the girlies. :D

pay em the 70k for gods sake but make sure they get more women in there... maybe an all girl school!? :D

Most viewers i think are 18 or over, loads of students still watch it as do a lot in the 20-30 age group who grew up with it.

And yes the totty is pretty damn good too, check out Pepper she is something else  !!

Anyway if BBC do get rid of it there's always usenet ;)

Even if BBC do loose it, it'll only go onto ITV, Ch4 or Ch5. Not like its gonna be leaving out TV sets for good. They might just have to add a half way cliffhanger for the adverts.

Seeing as I have a job (students, have a look here)

Ahhh I always wondered what one of those was! :D

Neighbours is one of the best shows on before 9pm and easily the best soap type thing. I usually watch it when I am at home out of term time (cos I foget to watch it during term :o ).

I'm betting a large portion of the population watch it (probably even more than Top Gear TBH). Just please don't let it slide to ITV or C5.

Neighbours is BBC!

Neighbours has gone hugely downhill in the last 6 months, find it crap now tbh. My latest grip is what the hell Carmella is doing? Will wanders off then she suddenely wants to shack up with his brother, who's even moved into the same house Will was in. Gheyyy!

Well with an extra £70,000 an episode and the bbc listening to the viewers it would be a lot better.

it's only on once a week remember - Neighbours is taking up 125k per week at the moment

This is what the BBC has to say (link):

BBC threatens to drop Neighbours

Long-running Australian soap Neighbours could be dropped by the BBC following protracted negotiations over broadcasting rights.

The BBC said that if agreement was not reached in the "very, very near future" the money would be allocated elsewhere.

It has refused to reveal how much it is offering for the drama, which has been screened twice a day since 1986.

ITV and Five have been connected with bids for the show. Its distributor, Fremantle Media, declined to comment.

The BBC's director of acquisitions, George McGhee, told Broadcast magazine: "If a deal is not reached in the very, very near future, we will withdraw the money and move it elsewhere.

"We've made a good offer which is about to be withdrawn."

A BBC spokesman added: "We hope that Neighbours will remain on the BBC but no programme is indispensable and it has to come at the right price."

A spokesman for Fremantle said negotiations over a new contract were ongoing.

Neighbours is the second most popular programme on terrestrial daytime television after the BBC One lunchtime news.

What I have always wanted to know is why it is on twice a day. I can't think of any other program (except the news of course) that is on more than once.

It's very cheap compared to what some companies are paying for content, if memory serves Sky are reported to be currently paying close to a million pounds an episode for some of their content (and getting a lot less viewers than the BBC are for neighbours).

Sky paid £20 million for Lost (20ish episodes per season) but that was a 3 year deal IIRC.

Interesting.. Tell us more interesting things.. Do all the hawt girls get together for a night of 'fun' or anything like that? :p

Sally likes to get freaky in front of the camera with her boyfriend. Actually she just liked to get freaky with her ex boyfriend who didn't tell her about the camera. Iirc.
