BBC to end Formula 1 television contract early

So they have cut back on the stuff to fill the channel that nobody ever watched anyway, what a shame...

It shows every Practice, Qualifying and Race live for F1, GP2 and GP3. What more do you want?

The point is that it feels like they're winding down the channel ready to bin it now they have sole rights to show F1. There's quite a lot of people who watch Sky F1 on the legacy HD pack who would lose it should that happen as you're talking an extra £30 a month for Sky Sports.

I suspect if that happens the numbers watching will dwindle even more. Still, they only care about subscriber numbers rather than viewing figures as you say.

I don't get this feeling they are "winding it down" at all? They have stopped bothering with the pointless stuff, but the actual content is unchanged? They are investing in bringing in more staff and haven't cut any of the race shows.

No i guess not.

So now the only way to watch the race is live on sky. There's nothign else except highlights.

What a crock. Guess im not watching it at all then. There goes my F1 fandom.

I'm really not, I want to watch all the races in full. It's really not much to ask. Why don't sky do catch up on a full race? Its crazy.

This is why illegal downloading exists - because content providers just dont offer a good enough service. Not theres any illegal downloads this season either.

I don't think he has Sky, I think he's saying his illegal sources have dried up and even though he has half the races live and half extended highlights available on C4, he's instead walking away from F1.

Although I'm confused why he said he would subscribe to Sky if he could watch full race reruns, but because he can't he won't, even though subscribing to Sky would give him the full race live plus, like you said, Sky+?

Sky offer a great service. You just have to pay for it.

If you would be able to watch the whole race on Sky on catchup, why can't you watch it live?

There is a reason why it isn't on catchup.

Look what is on at 4:30pm later today, then 8 and 8:30pm. Then Ted's Notebook at 11:15pm. Again on Thursday 9:30pm full race. Friday the highlights at 5pm.

As mentioned above, I'm referring to the content on the channel itself outside of a race weekend. Take the review of the year, that wasn't even available unless you had Sky Sports last year as they binned it for the Darts. There's also stuff like the Legends of F1 (as El_Watcher says) and other extra programming that just isn't made anymore.

As for the race weekends, there's more adverts since BBC went, more fillers and less interesting sections in the shows. The majority of it is just the three pundits standing there discussing irrelevant things. The race on Sunday was very busy but little of it outside the first lap was even discussed.

Its a shame as in the first few years it was genuinely good.

I'm in complete agreement with you. F1 on Sky was brilliant for the first couple of years but has steadily gone downhill in since. I thought the latter half of last season was utterly terrible - worse than the ITV years. The features were very poor, the pundits are like wood, Simon Lazenby is still no more likeable than in 2012 and both commentators are steadily declining, with Croft getting ever more annoying and Brundle really isn't the same and is starting to seem distant and detached from the action sometimes.

I had a rant over the winter about the waste of a channel. They should have old races on loop, feeder series, promoting youth both in motorsports and even behind the camera, having educational pieces, features from the factory in F1 and in lower categories of motorsport. There's so much content they could create for very little money, but they do **** all.

I obviously cant watch it live, else i would just watch it live. "Just do the thing you obviously cant seem to do" isnt really the solution im after. Cheers for your time anyway.

But you said you would subscribe to Sky if you could watch it on catchup, but because its not on catchup you won't?

If you subscribe to Sky you can watch it live, on re-runs, and recorded on Sky+ whenever you want. So subscribing to Sky does exactly what you want?

I think, although I may be wrong, that not only does he not have Sky, but he is also not near a TV on Sundays so physically can't watch live.

He was asking for a service which reruns the full race program at a time other than Sunday lunchtime (or morning/afternoon for some fly-aways).
