Just seen this on BBC breakfast.

Will be interesting to see what they do with it. It will be nice not to have ad breaks every 20 minutes, but I remember when BBC used to show it back in the 80s\early 90s when they showed no qualifying (except the British GP) and they used to start coverage 5 minutes before the race started.

A blow to ITV ad revenue as well.

Edit: They've just said it is a 5 year deal.

No breaks!!!!!!! Funny though as the ITV F1 coverage is the best in the business, will they all move to the BBC like they did back when it switched to ITV?

Although I'm pleased that ad breaks will be a thing of the past (they always seem to occur during an important part of each Grand Prix), I cannot see the BBC's coverage being anywhere as good as ITV's.

For starters, will they even send their reporters to each Grand Prix or will they be in fabricated studio in White City?
I will miss Brundle's grid walks as well.

One thing I liked about the adverts is it gave me a chance to have a pit stop "without missing the action" as they'd show it after the break. Gutting for ITV as they've just launched loads of online features, bbc sport news has always been poor when it comes to F1 news.

Agreed. Ad's excepted, ITV's coverage has been very good at showing what is going on behind the scenes and how things work. And the grid walks are always amusing. Hopefully the ITV team will follow to BBC and things will be similar to now but without the adverts (and maybe James Allen, though he's been better lately)

Fantastic news - can you imagine the outcry if they put ads every 20mins through out a football match ?

Why ruin F1 with it then? It's good to see F1 back on the beeb, makes me feel like my licence money is a bit more worthwhile now

Im not a fan of F1 but ITV shouldnt be allowed sport of any kind, adverts and awful commentators.

Good news!

I sort of like Steve Ryder - he always seems more enthusiastic about the racing than Jim Rosenthal did. (Am I right in thinking Jim admitted he didn't actually like F1?)
ITV coverage has been top notch over the last few years, I will be sorry to see it go to the Beeb. That said, I was disappointed when the BBC lost the coverage to ITV so maybe it'll all turn out okay in the end. And I definitely won't miss the breaks.

Can yo lot not remember when bbc had it??? they very if at all showed F1 live they always showed it at 1pm on sunday. Here's hoping they do actually show the races live otherwise its really going to suck even harder then the adverts
