BBC Top Gear - Series 23 discussion thread

it's getting better, but it's that Yank guy that's wrong for the show, no personality or real enthusiasm for cars

they need that AC/DC Brian Johnson guy, he's quite funny, because he's got a personality, he's a real petrol head

Evans is fine, he just needs somebody that he can banter with and Johnson is perfect

I think you might be in the minority with that opinion. Fairly sure 'that yank guy' is quite a big petrol head too. He had one of the faster laps on the old track, so we know he can handle a car too.

Nothing wrong with MLB IMO just needs a couple of better presenters than what they have at the moment for him to work with.

Not sure about Evans but the show's definitely lacking some banter and humour at the moment.

it doesn't matter if the Yankee is a petrol head, he shows no real enthusiasm and Evans needs someone he can joke with.

Evans isn't perfect, but then again nobody can compare to the old crew, esp when they went on trips abroad...........so funny

As I've said, that's your opinion, but I think that opinion is in the minority. In my opinion Evans is terrible, to the point of annoying and MLB is quite good. Most seem to agree with this.

Anyway, we could do this back and forth for ever. Everyone is allowed an opinion and of course different things will appeal to different people.

Ive started watching Top Gear USA, and the banter and humour is apparent and just what the UK Top gear is missing. Ive 'enjoyed' the current series, but i'd be expecting the next series to be much much better, drop EJ and SS, and give CH,RR and MLB the main hosting spots.

Do you honestly think a show with MLB, CH and RR wold inject the banter and humour you perceive as missing?

No one seems to be able to decide what they want, they pine for the old show that was less about the cars and more about the comedy and entertainment, yet campaign for the show to be led by out and out car journo's.

If you want the old TG then CE was the right direction but just the wrong choice, either way CH isn't and never will be about the lolbantz

Having watched back the 1st 2 series of old TG, they were just as awkward, so I do think a trio of CH,RR and MLB could become a entertaining team.

I don't mind the show, the problem is not only Chris Evans' strained shouty voice, but also where they have started the series trying to replicate the old format. I find it annoying how they want to flaunt various things they have that Amazon/Clarkson/Hammond/May didn't get, such as the Stig "Oh yes we got custody". The episode where they had to get a luxury vehicle was just ridiculous it lacked the previous series banter, practical jokes, car faults, and that part with MLB and the motorbike was just stupid. Also what is the thing with having chefs on the show, if I'm counting back correctly there has been at least one in every episode so far?
