BBC vs Lineker

What a joke.

Its in his contract. If he doesn't like that he shouldn't take his frankly ridiculous salary from the BBC.

I have no issue with people speaking their minds and personally I hate people being disciplined for their views wherever they sit on the political spectrum but thats just the world we live in. You can't pick and choose when to enforce these things. Its all or nothing especially for the BBC.

It would be the same for many public figures when it comes to their jobs and their social media.

Lets be fair, the real tragedy in all this is that Jermaine Jenas will be taking over. Probably for the foreseeable future.

It's just a joke that nobody said a thing when he was speaking out on Qatar before the World Cup but now that he's criticised the Fourth Reich Conservative Government suddenly free speech is dead.

Are you seriously telling me if an actor in a BBC drama made a comment about their political views on twitter they'd be in breach of contract?

Hopefully Chapman will just make the jump from MOTD2

Plenty of people called him out for being a massive ******* hypocrite.

Regardles of the issue being spoken about - like many businesses, its in his contract to be careful about social media useage. The BBC also has an issue because its paid for by the Great British Public (gawd bless em) and therefore the BBC has to remain impartial. Slagging off govt policy and linking it to Nazi Germany isnt impartial on any level.

Linaker knows that when he pockets his big BBC cheque. If he wants a new career as a social justice influencer then he is free to resign from the BBC and speak out however he wants.

Anyway, no big loss. The show is about football highlights - not what he or "Wrighty" (TM) witter on about.

Lineker has been very vocal about his political leanings before now. This one was particularly strong. Thats the issue. There is only so much they can let slide and this appears to have overstepped that.

The situation is that he has refused to temper his tweeting so they have suspended him. He hasn't been suspended for this tweet, he has been suspended for being unwilling to say that he won't keep doing it.

Looks like the BBC have dug themselves a big hole now cos no doubt none of the other ‘talent’ will cross the picket line to present the show for fear of the stick they’d get!

Might just be highlight footage only on Saturday!
