. I prefer WhatsApp system because I'm likely to have the number of the person I'm contacting anyway. Read statuses annoy me, just because I've read the message doesn't mean I have time to reply.

Not quite, one tick means it's made it to whatsapp's server two ticks means its made it to the phone.

This, one tick means its sent and 2 ticks means that its been delivered to the phone. Whereas BBM actually gives you a D for delivered and an R for read

So it seems like 1.1million people downloaded BBM onto their iphones/Androids seeing as the official version isnt even out

. So much for redundancy, i imagine once the official version is out and word gets out then it will increase substantially.

Also heard that the reason why it was delayed or has been delayed on Android is because Blackberry asked Google to remove the fake BBM apps on the play store...it was like the wild west in there with so many out there :/.

Whereas the iOS version, if you change your region to New Zealand you could download it and use it. I havent put it on my mums iphone but will be doing once its out officially.

Downloaded and actually use is a different thing

That's still less than 0.2% of all Android users.

I think this is pretty nice, it's a strange move though. It makes some sense and yet doesn't at the same time. This is just one less reason for someone to buy a BlackBerry device, and really there aren't many of those reasons left now.

BlackBerry were popular for large companies, but they seem to be shifting over to iPhones now (in my experience).

I hate WhatsApp though, it's completely overrated trash. I like iMessage, and then Viber if I need to IM an Android phone. BBM could be nice, I'll have to try it out later.

I don't like it, the interface and design just don't do it for me. I was surprised. Maybe the Android version is better, I've only tried it on iOS (it's usually the other way round though so I doubt it).

I've used it for a long while now and have no real complaints.

If it had an option to send higher quality images that would be great but other than that I see no problem at all.

I just don't like it, it feels a bit messy (I know it isn't bad, and it isn't trash, but I think there are better options).

It's a simple app that does a simple task your the first I've heard dislike it.

How is iMessage better (out of interest) other than it's integrated with your sms? which I don't think is a big deal at all.

Integrated (of course), maximum picture and video quality (you said WhatsApp can't do this?), and it looks better. Downside is that it requires iOS, which isn't an issue as everyone I text is on an iPhone.

I've tried WhatsApp a few times over the years and I've always found it to be overrated as I know it's very popular. I can't precisely put my finger on why, but I think Viber does a better job in all areas (though I'm not a big fan of the fact it's pink/purple).

And on iOS you have to pay for WhatsApp, which I don't care about, but it's definitely a negative. Free on Android isn't it?

Yep res is downed to ~0.7MP. So iMessage has the option to send a full size ~5MB pic? Is it default or does it give the option for downsizing too?

Free on Android yes - at most 60p for the year. But it always renews for free if you don't pay

At the end of the day nearly all my contacts us Whatsapp so it wins for me. I have no complaints with the UX.

There is a modded apk for higher res pics but I'm not that bothered.

It just sends the picture at the maximum size, on emails though you get the option to pick the size.

All the time? Not so great then IMO, unless your always on wifi.

Most of the time you just want to see the pic at decent quality (0.7MP) and quick transfer I.E. 30-100KB.

Yes, it could be considered a negative. I'm not trying to say it's better, but I prefer it, and for a more like for like comparison I prefer Viber to WhatsApp, too.

I am not going to install an app to message the 2 remaining BlackBerry users that I have on my contacts, they can deal with texts. For everyone else there's iMessage.

As already noted, this should have come out when BlackBerry OS 10 first stalled to keep a bit of interest in the platform up, but seeing as most of their sales are still OS 7 devices having BBM installed is only really useful if you spend a lot of time messaging poor people in Asia.

Do give it a go Robbo as you seem to be pretty neutral with most things lol. Unlike whatsapp, you know when the person has read your message...with whatsapp you dont ie 2 ticks doesnt mean its been read rather its been delivered to the device.
Also with video calling and a few other features coming soon on BBM for iphone and Android, i cant see anything in whatsapp that makes it better than BBM. And with BBM, you dont need to give your numbers out to people so BBM isnt as intrusive as whatsapp. Fact is no one knows what whatsapp does with the numbers as they are stored on their servers...huge security risk there for some people.

Free on Blackberry too lol, i dont understand why whatsapp charge for iphone users though...very strange practice that is.
