It's the future.

I love BBQ food and Champagne. So combining the 2 things is, what? GENIUS!?

:D

Some guys in my team were over and so we arranged for them all to come round last night for a BBQ. So, as I was the one doing all the cooking, they didn't want it to be unfair, so one suggested that they all bring Champagne instead. Now, that just sounds awful. :p

So last night, 6 adults, 9 bottles of Champagne and a TON! of BBQ food.

This sounds amazing!

You look to have very generous friends judging by that bottle of Belles Epoque! If i did the same i'd probably end up with Prosecco and Cava!

BBQ food yes please, champagne would just ruin it for me because I'm an uncouth peasant

Sounds good, and a tad more up market than the BBQ and Biscuit Bonanza I hosted some years ago. Where as you might expect everyone had to bring biscuits (and meat). It was great!!!

I'm going to do these weekly. Sounds sustainable and reasonable. :p

They're not bad friends to have over, I have to say. They like to all top each other. Was surprised that there was no Krug, but there was none in the shop haha

I'd absolutely love to open a small place that just did BBQ food and Champagne. That's a dream!

Out office now stinks of BBQ food as I bought leftovers in and the whole office got stuck in! Mmmm cold ribs!

Champagne is nice with a BBQ, but I think I'll stick to Aussie shiraz or Rioja personally.

See if you can persuade your mates to bring over some grange ;)

I didn't realise that it was *that* kind of gathering

Nice! Not sure if I've tried that. I might see if la shops have it for me to test out.

There are a boat ton of different brands here as you'd imagine. It's trying to find out what's actually worth a punt.

Yeah i can imagine.

Our trip to Reims seems to have been put on the back burner to either October time or possibly even next year. I bought a convertible especially for the journey but obviously that gives us limited space to stock up so my dads jumped on the bandwagon with his Suzuki Vitara but he's always so busy its hard to get a time we're all free.

Have you ever been on any of the champagne house tours? I was reading the Ruinart one was good if a little pricey.

Apologies for the complete off topicness!

I've been to Reims for the day - ended up wondering around a few. The impression I got was the bigger the name, the less fun it was (well, less freebies). After 1-2 tours it gets quite samey as well.

I'd recommend seeking out some smaller houses and checking who does tours there

Totally agree with above. I've not done epernay/reim houses, but I plan to take the Mrs for a weekend after the wedding. I'd heard the same though. It gets a bit samey and the "well known" houses are a bit sack.
