BE* broadband cancelled - need new ISP!

That's not going to happen. They went into LLU broadband to bolster the broadcasting operations.

On the 0.00001% chance it did happen I'd give Talk Talk a chance. If it sucked then I'd take my business elsewhere. I migrated through 4 different iterations of the local cable company at the family house until they ended up as Virgin, and that worked out OK. Maybe I should start a thread reminiscing about Nynex cable modems and how they were utterly awesome...

Moved from BE to Sky several months ago, it's been trouble free and the whole switch was done in 2 phone calls. Got the same line speeds as before, no line issues plus it's only costing £3 per month with no other charges. Not using the black Sky router though, the wireless signal in it was pretty poor and kept dropping the PS3.

Well I've signed with a company called Aquiss, never heard of them till yesterday morning and the reviews seem pretty good, just need to wait 7 - 10 days till it gets switched on then I can test it out.

They were my isp before I moved to Be ,had no complaints with them but I moved to Be because at the time they had changed their fair use policys going back 5-6 years though.
Would be interested to hear what they are like now :)

I've just went with option 1 on there, I would have got fibre but it's still not available in my part of Carlisle yet. I'll try to let you know what it's like when I'm finally connected.

I also got the reviews from here:-

Direct comparisons get complicated, but Zen are still an expensive option. The potentially better customer service may be worth it for some people.

For example it'd cost me over £100/year to shift from PlusNet to Zen for basically the same FTTC connection.

quick question. I've changed from BE to Sky and annoyed that I no longer can call before 7pm for free. Looked up plusnet and can get a 12 month deal that works out about £8 a month cheaper than I'm currently paying, and includes Anytime phones.

Now....if I go ahead and order, will plusnet do all the talking with sky to cancel that or do I have to sort it?

edit: hmm Sky webchat person tells me I'm on a 12 month contract starting from April. I was previously on a rolling contract with BE and cannot remember SKY informing me of a change of terms to a fixed 12 month contract. Do i have a leg to stand on?

Just seen Watchdog on BBC1 and there was a section about Sky. A lot of people have complained because when they moved from BE/O2 to Sky and did not take Sky TV or Sky Phone when they got their first bill sky had added charges like this

So Sky are charging ex BE/O2 customers a charge for not having a service ! Crazy. Sky said it was because they do not qualify for the discount you have if you had Sky TV also so they are taking the discount off in this way.

Its been said the practice is highly irregular and Watchdog wanted more viewers to contact them and Sky Customer service.

I've seen it all now!

I may not be in possession of all the facts but it seemed like they were making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill - the 'surcharge' is the equivalent of not receiving a discount but because it is phrased/billed in that way people think they are hard done by (even though in monetary terms there would be no difference at all).

The only things I would consider inacceptable would be if the O2/BE customers had a long contract and this put the total bill up higher than what they were previously paying prior to the expiry of that contract; I suspect this is unlikely however as IIRC BE had fairly short minimum contracts (3 months or less?). Or if it wasn't stated anywhere in their transfer documentation that this would be the case.

Correct. My bill went down @£4 pm and I get unlimited eve/weekend calls that I didn't get with Be, even though I'm supposedly paying for not having Sky TV.

If you were auto-migrated to Sky, you are definitely not under contract and can scarper anytime. Maybe 30 day notice though.

Well I'll give them a call and try and work it out. The webchat person seemed quite adamant that I was on a 12 month contract (and that it would be better for me to stay due to cancellation charges!). They even said everyone migrated from BE was transferred onto a 12 month contract.

edit: I've found what I need. States here on their website:

Changes to both the Sky Broadband and Sky Talk Contracts:

• You will not be subject to a minimum term for your services when we move you to Sky. However, you will be subject to a minimum term if you choose to take up one of our special offers and transfer your services over to Sky earlier than the switchover date.

I moved from BE to Sky due to them buying BE,personally speed is very slighlty slower ie I get 10MB rather then 11MB before, also had a couple of disconnects on both wired and wireless(never had this with BE)that did not last long since the change over, overall not too bad, this is with the same modem/router too ie Asus DSL-N55U.

Been fine today and yesterday, last Saturday I had a bad disconnect in the afternoon.

Btw also had BT check wiring and they also replaced the outdoor phoneline only a few months ago.

Line stability has been much worse since the changeover, but Sky are yet to implement the profile tweaks we could do with Be. The tweaks are supposed to be coming, I believe.

But as to whether my patience will hold, that's another question. Tempted to give Sky notice and then make use of BT's online offer of a free connection of a new line, as well as vouchers.

I had another disconnect last night after 12pm,seems to be fine this morning,I hope its sorted soon.

Anybody else notice they seem to reduce net speed in the evenings(use speedtest.net) for their customers even if you are on unlimited usage,I don't download much.

I never had this problem with BE,seems ok in the mornings however.
