BE* broadband cancelled - need new ISP!

The Hyperoptic install for my block should be coming in the next month or so, shame I won't be living there any more :(

where did u hear that krooton? last i heard a month ago they were still getting permissions from landlords and found it more complicated technically than what they expected.

and to think the original deadline was november 2013, lol. i seriously dont think we'll ever get it.

Got this on the 6th of May, I'm probably being a bit optimistic, haha

Good afternoon Sir kr00t0n

We are working to bring our service to The Willows as soon as possible. We currently have a verbal agreement in place with the building management. The next step is for us to receive the signed paperwork so we can then plan installations to cable the building with our infrastructure.

As you have already registered your interest we will keep you informed on the progress.

Kind Regards

thought you had some timescales..

that's the generic blurb they gave me months ago..

oh well..I don't think anything is going to be done before september - if it ever happens that is.

When got moved from O2 after my contract was up i got the offer to move to Sky. They only charged me for the internet, & gave me £40 credit as well. Havent noticed a difference in the service, though i had to lose the static IP that i had with o2. Not that i knew what to do with it, but hey-ho. The only downside seems to be that you have to use their Sky Hub, unless you spoof its mac address on your own kit.

Count your blessings.

Ouch, looks like I was much more lucky then.

After the migration my personal router stopped working.

Phone support, tried some settings, didn't work, so they sent out a sky hub, received 3 days later, plugged in and all good apart from the loss of speed and ping.

Aye, apparently you need to use their own router. Theres a way round it by spoofing the sky hub mac address on your own router, but i havent got my own router (yet) and it seems like a bit of a hassle

I can't say anything wrong on Xilo. They are on top of the ISP's on ISPreview site.
Has been for few years with them and if any problem the customer service is great. Fault on the line few times (not their fault) resolved by them. Downtime due to fire in main wholesale supplier exchange - offered free transfer to different product and money back for loss of service. All in all great. Oh and 30 day contract which suits me just fine :)

Plusnet are brilliant, I had a similar problem when I was on O2. Got the letter about moving to Sky and jumped ship straight away.

Haven't had a single problem with Plusnet and been with them probably around two years now. I think you are sorted now though but might be helpful to others :)

Postcode lottery, just because you hear Sky sucks doesn't always mean it will suck it your area.. I'd wait if i was you.

I had another major disconnection last night for a few hours around 11pm,fine this morning, I do hope its sorted soon or thinking of going somewhere else.

Reminds me of Orange in the early days, one reason I moved to BETHERE ISP and never had any issues with them until SKY took over ,yes ISP can be post code lottery but these sort of things should not happen in 21st century on regular basis.

I'm in SE London so wonder if they have oversubscribed in my area?

Anybody help me with this....

Tried cancelling sky broadband today after they auto migrated me in Feb and now they are saying i'm stuck in a contract until Feb 2015?

Surely this can't be right? :)

Well I'll give them a call and try and work it out. The webchat person seemed quite adamant that I was on a 12 month contract (and that it would be better for me to stay due to cancellation charges!). They even said everyone migrated from BE was transferred onto a 12 month contract.

edit: I've found what I need. States here on their website:

Changes to both the Sky Broadband and Sky Talk Contracts:

• You will not be subject to a minimum term for your services when we move you to Sky. However, you will be subject to a minimum term if you choose to take up one of our special offers and transfer your services over to Sky earlier than the switchover date.

Basically if you accepted any offer to be migrated prior to the automatic migration that everyone eventually got then you are in a contract. If you underwent automatic migration without accepting any offer then you are not in a contract.

Sky's systems don't have the ability to differentiate between the two.

I was with 02 for a long time and was quite happy, never had any problems.

When Sky took over I thought I would see how things went with them?

After a few months my speeds dropped right down so I contacted them about it.

To cut a long story short they wouldn't send out an Engineer to fix the problem so I cancelled.

Before I cancelled I asked them about charges?

They told me that because I was an 02 customer I wouldn't incur any charges.
