Be Broadband

im looking into this as well, after getting a nice letter from my ISP at the moment. when it says "unlimited" is it actually, or is it fair usage policy? i assume there is a difference as the "pro" package has 24/7 unlimited?

there is a fair usage policy but it may aswell not be there tbh :p
I havent had a email/call from them regarding my usage and i have been literally transfering gigabytes of data between home and work (185.41 gb last month)

I am on the premium unlimited service (24mb)

I've been with them since the start and have yet to get any emails about downloading or bandwidth abuse and I upload a lot... Hell these guys even text you when they're about to take money out of your account :) Agree about them being good for games. On TF2 I'd get sub 15ms pings to Jolt.

I'll second this. I've transfered 300+GB each and every month for the last year or so.

They're great IMO. I submitted a ticket online to be put on Fastpath and it was done within a couple hours. Same thing when I had to have Fastpath removed.

DNS servers have been wonky lately but I'm using the BT DNS servers now and everything is great.

Went to Be 3 weeks ago, was brilliant 1mb down and just over 1 up, but last weekend it went bad, very bad. Unable to ploay any online game, hard to surf the net was faster on dial up, everything was timing out, that was on friday evening its still the same sadly, very very poor speeds and pages timing out.

When it works it is great though :)

3 times a month? lol :p not really a major problem.

Get a cheap Netgear 834GT - much better than the BeBox dodgy router.

Aside from that, Be are the best all-round ISP about at the moment.

Seriously, check out the GT instead of the BeBox. They're very cheap on eBay now and they do a stellar job (make sure you get the unofficial modified firmware as it's got loads of useful options).

I will second that. To be more honest, the BeBox is bloody awful. On this router it shuts off and comes back on 5-9 times a day. But I've been a patient person, I have put up with it for 2 months.

I found that the BeBox was a lot more unstable when using wireless clients than when only wired ones were connected, must be something to do with the implementation because my BT HomeHub has the same problems and it is based on the same hardware as the BeBox.

Been with Be for about 6 months now.

12mb down / 1.3mb up. Depending how far from the exchange you are, the better your speed will be. They do have a FUP, but as said already it's not really there, I've downloaded 100+GB in some months.

Great pings, as already said.

I have had a bit of down time, their DHCP went down a few days ago. DNS issues some times. I randomly get disconnected... about 3 times a day, but I blame the Be Box for that.

Indeed. :p

Bit of a coincidence actually, i got a phonecall off BT tonight asking if i wanted to upgrade to 8mb for £25 a month. Told them i'll think about it and thought it would be a good time to look at BE as i've heard some good things about them.

Sounds like they might be worth a try, as i'm getting a bit fed up with BT. Got my own router as well, so wouldn't need the BE Box. Or do you get it anyway with the package?

Will have been with Be for one year on the 27th :)

Excellent upload speeds, download suffers but that is just my whole area being pretty far from the exchange. I did have a few problems with pings in CS mostly after my switch from Bulldog to Be, but then I never bothered changing any configs as I'd just about given up on that game.

The Be router isn't bad for a free one, but that said you'd be much better off with a commercial one. Their FUP may as well not exist and their uptime has been very good. A few DNS issues here and there but nothing life threatening.

***VERY IMPORTANT***

If you do decide to sign up with Be, do it via quidco.com for a tasty £55 cashback.
For the record I'm with Be and they're the best ISP I've been with, no moaning about how much I download and my pings are really decent too.
