Be Broadband

If you're downloading "questionable" content via P2P, you need to be using some sort of protection, ie Peerguardian2 or Filetopia etc etc.
It's stupid not to imo, like having sex without a condom.

Are newsgroups like EasyNews protected?

Can't fault Be* as compared to my previous suppliers (BT, Plusnet, Aquiss) The difference is vast. Be* have none of that slow down crap through the day time and faster speeds through the night, they are constant. I've only experienced 1 lengthy downtime and that was during the night for about 7 hours, no biggie. The only niggle i have with Be* is the terrible email service, many times its either down or very very slow (using Outlook Express)

Other than that Be* is by far the best ISP i have been on since 2000

I personally use BE and they are very reasonable when it comes to the information they share with their users, They themselves do not monitor your connections but if they receive a complaint from people who monitor illegal torrents they are obliged to at least serve a warning to the user of the reported ip at the time it was being used (dynamic ip logs have to be kept by isp's by law for this purpose).

I dont beilive that any internet service will make your torrent downloads untracable by officials since your very using of these services that offer annonymous through connections will attract the attention of these monitoring bodies.

Its easy, if its a torrent then its tracable by anyone else connected to that tracker whilst your downloading it.

Can anyone recommend a moderately priced modem/router that is guaranteed to work with Be?

I tried hooking up a Linksys WAG200G and used the settings Be provided me and it refuses to work. I then tried every combination of settings possible on the router yet it still doesn't allow any internet access. It's weird because according to the status page on its web interface, it is connected (the internet LED is switched on), but if I try accessing the internet, nothing happens. This with a static IP address.

Also what modem/routers are best for apps that use lots of connections (e.g. bittorrent etc) ? I tried leaving my BeBox on overnight with lots of connections and found in the morining that it had dropped the internet connection.

For cable I used a Linksys WRT54GL (with DD-WRT firmware) and it never missed a heartbeat, even with several days of continuous hammering (bittorrent, emule, the lot).

The DG834GT is reported to work, and I got my Cisco 877 (though I wouldn't say it was reasonably priced) to work.

Be do some weird stuff with their network (VPI/VCI 0/101, no PPP) which makes setting up a router a bit awkward.

I use a WAG200G and I used the settings given in this thread: http://www.beforum.co.uk/forum/default.aspx?f=6&m=12599
