I ditched my BeBox in favour of a Netgear DG834GT, gained 3mb instantly through my wireless set up, then jumped onto fastpath and gained another 3mb..happy chappy now sitting at 21mb :)
 
Signed up to BE on the 7th March, recieved the welcome pack on the 14th March, due to be activated on the 17th March.

My exchange went live on the 7th and I signed up as soon as I got the "your exchange is now live" email off BE.

The router they send is the 585 V6, although they say they are starting to ship the V7 during March.

I have no need for wireless and was wondering if it's possible to completly shut off the wireless part? Never had a wireless router so not sure how it works. I figure I might as well use the BE box over my current 536 router as long as the wireless can be killed off.

Despite Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]3.5 / 6.5 - im only getting 4mb with entanet, im hoping to get the full 24 with BE, and save money :)
 
Unless they have changed their standard web based frontend to the speedtouch routers you simply go into the routers http frontend using your browser, ip 192.168.1.254 (default) and then in the home networking section you'll find the wireless section where you can enable or disable the wireless radio.

Im hoping for around 6meg... do you think thats about right? Current stats on entanet

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 50.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 10.0 / 7.0
 
Given those stats 6mb would be about right, I have 47db/28db and my connection is 6.5mb but I have my SNR up/down set to 9db highish for stability as I choose to use fastpath for lower pings, when I had it set to 7db I got 7mb.

I'd recommend that you get a static IP from BE as their DHCP servers are in my opinion pretty unreliable, as is their DNS servers. This has caused a lot of people to think their line is failing when its actually just a hiccup when the dhcp lease runs out.

just switched to a DG834GT and I sync a little bit higher. was getting about 10mbit download at speedtest.net

You're hoping to get 24mbit on ADSL2+ when you're getting 4mbit on regular ADSL? You'll be lucky to get anything faster than 6mbit, let alone 24. It aint happening.

Edit: Ok misread - it is happening if that's indead your attenuation figures :) For some reason I thought it was SNR figures.

How can you say that? with those atttenuation figures he must be capped by his current isp at 4mb.

Those are my current stats, I know that the Attenuation is "excellent" but not sure about the SN Margin?

Also yes im capped at 4mb with my current ISP due to the IP Profiles constantly sticking at 4mb, which is why I mentioned earlier on that I hope that BE don't use IP profiles as they have crippled my broadband again and again. Sick of phoning support to get it unstuck so I jumped at joining BE when they went live in my exchange :)

So, SN Margin of (Up/Down) [dB] 23.0 / 14.5 will those numbers help or hinder 24mb?
 
YoungBlood, I know your eager to see what you'll get but it really is best to wait and see given that every line has different characterstics, noise gaps etc..

I personally dont beilive that the SnR that you are currently seeing are your true SnR. It may be that the ISP is forcing those on your connection to keep your speed down to 4mb.

Either way you'll almost certainly get 20mb+ connection unless you have some serious line issues (not likely) and to be honest not that many sites will satisfy a 20mb link.

I was just wondering, since my change to fast path I have been getting seemingly random disconnections, not very often but when I'm in game it is very annoying. Is this normal in the couple of days after switching?

A 4 ping is nice but not if I have to put up with disconnections. Just wondering if this is likely to sort it's self out over time or if I should switch back?

Guru, its usually a sign that your connection wasnt clean enough to support fastpath with the SnR you have set.

Standard connections use Interleaved traffic which is used to try and give some resilience at the cost of some latency so if your line isnt clear enough it could easily cause drop outs.

Maybee try and increase your SnR, maybee post your line stats from the router, might show somthing more likely.

Edit: also when BE changed my connection to fastpath they reset my SnR profile to standard 6db which I did not request. I use 9db for a little extra stability.

Cool :) I'm on HSDPA at the moment, but when I'm home I'll have a look on the router :)

How do you change SnR though?

Best way is to phone their tech support, tickets can take a while to get answered. But make sure they know you want to stay on fastpath if your only wanting to raise your SnR.
