Anyone used Be Broadband? I was thinking of going with these, problem is i dont have a BT Line and have been told it can cost in excess of over £100, but i was also told it could be wavered?

Im currently using mobile broadband which isnt bad with a 30GB month allowance, i get a ping of around 120ms, average download is 3.50mbps and upload is usually around 0.95mbps. Although this is fine for most uses (ping pretty high still though) and even Xbox live works pretty good, it is still not ideal and without its problems. I could be playing on a online game, everything is running smooth and then out of nowhere i get disconnected. I know this can still happen with most broadbands, years ago when i was with NTL it sometimes did, but not as frequent as i experience with the mobile broadband, which lets face it is isnt designed for online gaming anyway :p

Anyway, i have about 10 months left of my contract with 3 for the mobile broadband, but i think its time to get proper internet access again. The house has no landline and im guessing hasnt been for over 2 year since i moved in, and cant get broadband in my area without landline.

So, whats the best/cheapest way to get a good broadband package in with bt line, but hopefully avoiding the ridiculous bt fees

Ive been looking at BeThere which seem decent, just the problem of the phoneline.

Thanks in advance folk

There was a £29 installation deal with BT which may have ended on the 30 JUNe However it may be extended. One must mention this deal tel. 0800 800 150
02 (that's BE) have a phone installation package starting around Sept but unknown price
Primus have a £69 installation- Ring 0800 036 0170 for more information

just been on phone to bt and your right they mentioned the £29.99 fee which i dont mind paying to be honest. anything like the £100+ is robbery!

they said the deal only applies if i take out broadband with them and it must be 18month contract and also i must make at least 10 chargeable or inclusive calls with BT each month.

someone will phone me back, but first i need to work out prices of there packages.

Thanks for the info marmalade i will also ring those numbers ;)

Have been with Be for about 4 years and never had any down time or slow speeds. I think that the cost is justified.

Been with BE for 2 years only had one major outage but that was due to an underground fault in my area, no fault of BE. Other than that, my speeds are good, pings are good, no complaints here :)

Aslong as you fire all technical support tickets over the members center and not the phone, they are fine.

You really really really don't want BT broadband!!!!!!

lol @ BT broadband, you might aswel get a shotgun and shoot yourself in the foot for the trouble its worth.

Was with BE for 3 years until I had to move out of my flat, looking to get them in my new place as I had no problems whatsoever.

Been with Be for 2 years. Since they kicked off all of the leechers and downloaders the service has been even better. It was good before but their pipelines started to become swamped with the permanant download brigade. After giving most of them notice, the service is probably better than it was before. Their customer service is second to none and I managed to negotiate mine down to £12 per month as I am an 02 customer and asked for the same discounts to apply.

As far as I'm aware, Be have never kicked anyone off for excessive downloading  They did have a 40GB/month cap on their lowest tier for a couple of months but this was soon scrapped and their service remains unlimited.

I got a discount aswel, £12pm for me :) Unlimited usage and suits me well, 1500kb/s down and 130kbps up :)

rubbish!

Been with BE 3 years, no problems at all with them and their customer service is very good infact one of the best i've dealt with out of a good vast amount of companies.

You may want to ask BE about their line package deal which is incoming soon, it includes a line they install themselves and you can use as a standard phoneline too.(contact them to check but i am pretty sure the price wasn't expensive at all to install it then use.)

Been with BE for years as well. Amazing ISP, one of the best IMO. No restrictions, full speed any time of the day and never goes down. You even get a days free internet on your bithday! :D

Another option would be to see if fibre is coming to your area soon and wait for that, but that means going back to BT until other ISP's pick it up :(

RE OP: I have just moved to a flat with no active BT line. If your renting try asking the landlord to pay. Also, I managed to save allot by using Sky Talk line rental. The price quoted by Sky is around £30 so there is really no reason to pay BT £130!

RE BE internet, I have to agree with the above, best ISP I have ever had. I have lived in a cable area in my last 3 flats but can't see any point in changing ISPs. Pings are great and so is the customer service.

Really you didnt read the continually whinging in the Be forums where excessive downloaders were throttled so heavilly that they were all leaving. I had several tickets in with Be about slow down of service at peak periods. Tech support stated that they had a huge influx of users on their service that were using what was considered an excessive ammount of bandwidth and they were taking measures to deal with them. Sure enough they started throttling ports and writing to excessive users. Since then I have never suffered peak period slow down.

So before you choose to flame someone I suggest that you have your facts correct.
