Be*, how are they?

I've been with Be* for just over a year now, no complaints here

I'm approx 3 1/4 of mile from the exchange and recieve 17Mb down 2Mb up.

The problem with the distance on the ageing phone line ADSL, is that your property maybe next door to the exchange, but that doesn't mean you will receive the full quted 24Mb.

The reason is actual line distance, the BT line that comes into your property may infact travel 500 yards/1 mile/2 miles etc in the wrong direction before it returns to the exchange

With Virgin on the other hand, their Cable broadband quoted max speeds are supposed to be that no matter where your located.

If i had the chance, i'd give Virgin a go, but untill they get their act together and install digital cable where i live, i'll have to stick with crusty old Telephone ADSL.

I think I'll go with the crusty old telephone, with the way Virgin changed it's policies when they took over branding NTL or actually took them over. The internet is only good for browsing, gaming is terrible on the weekends and download speeds are never the max because they overload all the time.

But to be fair and put that in context that's nothing to do with Be surely? ie: If every one switched to another provider the speeds wouldn't suddenly go up...

Just joined Be from Virgin today. If I get only 6mb and that upload speed I will be over the moon.....a lot batter than Virgin 2MB for less money.

Virgin phoned me to offer £10 BB but it was the usual 12 months tie-in...so jumped ship. I'd be back to £18 in six months of it.

Never had a problem, and fine for me now...

No issues here. I'm 3 million miles from the exchange so I only get 5 Mb (as opposed to 2 previously with BT) but has been stable for months.

There are no caps and they don't throttle anything. It truly is unlimited.

Apparently the distance from my exchange is 1.72KM, what sort of speed would I be looking at?

I'm 2.3km as the crow flys and after tweaking my Netgear GT I get DownStream Connection Speed 13269 kbps UpStream Connection Speed 1269 kbps

Only time I have contacted support was to get interleaving turned off at the start of my contract and never since in about 4 months service so far......

Average UK gaming server pings are 10 - 15

I've had this too. I only signed up yesterday afternoon as well. My Virgin cancellation date isn't until the 26th. Is it possible to use the two together while I have both? IE. One for downloading and the other for gaming?
