BE Internet - A warning.

My question is why would you try to cancel... get hung up on and then just forget about it for a few more months? Sounds rather silly to me. I would have been back on the phone complaining.

whats the fuss about

you had a BT problem that you ISP refused to deal with, or had little knowledge about (do ISP staff ever know about this stuff ? trying to get an ISP to admit a problem with a line is hard, no matter what ADSL)

most of your problems relate to this BT line fault. Line drops etc.. will have been down to the poor line, not your modem.

and quoting speeds you wont receive is common to the whole ADSL industry, not just Be.

same with a contract cancellation notice period, with a charge if you want it quicker. THis is normal something everyone does

yes they were late in connecting you, but i cant really see anything other than that wrong ? i'd be a rich man if i had £1 for every thread on here where ISP staff couldnt diagnose Line problems it is afterall a BT fault, something they wouldnt have known anything about....

OK - You seem to have read a different post to the one I made. Please re-read it without ignoring 95% of it.

I didn't forget about cancelation. When I phoned back it was to confirm everything was fine. This was when it came to light that BE had yet again been completely useless.

i have

and your sensationalizing it because your cheesed off with them

take a step back and look though some impartiality glasses, you've not been treated that bad.

MrLOL has a very good point,
you were hung up on, but assumed they had cancelled your connection?
I would have been back on the phone straight away to complain and to ensure that it had been cancelled.

Its a shame you have had a bad time with be, but there are a lot of people out there including myself who have had nothing but an excellent experiance with them.

if everyone avoided every isp where one person has had a bad experience then no one in the UK would have broadband at all.

love my 22mb

They've been ok, had a few problems in the start. I signed up and gave them my card number to bill for the sign up and monthly cost, then they had the balls to cancel my service a month later citing lack of payment because they didn't have my card details.

This happened twice before i told them a third time will be the last, never happened again.

I don't get very good speeds, about 7meg, but its a reliable service and can't otherwise complain.

Be users who switched from another ISP: How long after ordering was the connection ready to use? We're with Eclipse at the moment, requested the MAC code and we're finished with them at the end of this month. Want to know roughly when to order Be, but don't want to do it immediately because we'll theoretically be paying for two ISPs at once.

Eclipse will refund you from the date you are connected to BE till the end of the month.
When I migrated from Zen it took about 5 or 6 days...

they wont actually let you while the line is registered with some1 else

i had this when i moved into my new house. Signed up for be, then get an e-mail saying id need to remove my existing supplier before be could supply me. Rang them up and said "but ive not got a supplier, only just moved in last week" worked out the previous occupant hadnt cancelled the contract properly, probably just stopped paying leaving pipex to send bailiffs after them as i got nasty letters from them not longer after addressed to them ..

anyway turns out i had to contact BT to remove my previous occupants supplier. Once that had ceased, it was 2 weeks before i was ready.

Im really looking into getting this as I can when I move into new house in 4 weeks time.

How long does it take to get connected?

Anyway I can tell what speed im likely to get?

www.samknows.com

find out where your exchange is

and try and get a best guess of your line length. from here to your exchange.

speed is governed by the quality of your line / internal wiring and the distance from the exchange.

Doubt they will, as it's the last month of a 12-month contract, I believe. :)

When I spoke to Be, they said we could just keep our Eclipse connection going until Be is ready to switch over, at which point there might be a few hours downtime.

I'm wondering if the fact that we (to my knowledge anyway) weren't LLU'd with Eclipse will help or hinder the situation though.

You are approximately 1.62km from the exchange (straight line distance).

Its on an all newish housing estate as well so im hoping line quality is all good. At the minute im under that to my exchange and get around 7.3mb with BT supposely.

I'm with BE & 1.70km from my exchange (also in a 18 month old estate).
I'm connected at 11.4mb :)

Following similar experiences, I have gone into the habit of recording all my phone calls regarding amending/cancelling contracts. ANd when they refuse to cancel and ask for money, I write to them and just tell them I cancelled and have proof.

Ive ben with BE now for about 4 months and if your into peer2peer they are as good as it gets....~2km from exhange at 11mb down, 1-1.2 up ;)

router is a bit flakey, but i dosent bother me TBH.

wha people seem to forget i that theres no traffic interference...not many ISPs can say that, especially ones that offer this speed!

I moved house and started a fresh bt line with be, and from the bt line being activated, it took about 7 days all in all until i was surfing, IIRC.

no complaints a all, I would reccoment to anyonre if you live >2km from exhange.

but if you live 4km for example, i doubt it would still be value for money, an upto8meg deal is much cheaper

I think it is. I live a fair distance from the exchange and could only get 2Mb max on my up to 8 Mb connection. Now I get 6 Mb so well worth the money. Plus the upload speed is great.
