Be Quiet 500DX

@SurfXombie

Nice. And do you think if the front fans were placed on the inside, that 3x140mm would physically fit? I think the inside gives you a bit more vertical headroom. Even if a different method of securing the fans would have to be employed.

Hmm maybe, I do have another case that I managed that in but would depend on the clearance at the top. I have a radiator fitted there so I can't really go any higher.

I am not sure there is 20mm to spare?

I dunno. Haven't found any info on anyone doing it. You definitely cannot use the screw holes, or rather, you wouldn't be able to use the top two and bottom two screwholes. And the uppermost fan might press a bit on the I/O cables.

Looking in the case there is some room as my rad (on the inside) goes higher up than the top fan by ~15mm. It comes down to where the case header cables come to.

I have done this in another (different) case and only a couple of the screw holes lined up, but it was enough to hold/jam the fans in.

I'd post a pic but imgur is down atm for me.

I wonder if BeQuiet will update there case lineup soon.

I like the 500dx, but a few things niggle. (Like just 1 USB-A, feels stingy.) So would love to see an updated one. Maybe even something slightly bigger, but not massive like the 802.

at a guess they would put 2 USB-C on there now.

I thought I wouldn't use the front USB-C much/at all either. But my new mobile phone actually came with a USB-C to USB-C charge cable. So I use that to connect up my phone, or even my PS5 controller.
I also got a USB-C SD card reader. Handy as I can use it with both my phone and PC now.

I certainly wouldn't want to forgo USB-C on the front again. Id still like 2x USB-As though. As I often have a USB headset and a USB thumb drive or similar plugged into the front.

I have an NVME (Samsung 980) in a little external case and get decent read/write speeds via the USB C. Like 1000MB/s which is getting close to the 10Gbps bandwidth.

same. I'm slowly moving all my stuff to USB-C and it just feels more future proof really.

Hello everyone. New member here. I bought the 500dx case and I'm willing to buy AIO for it. My only question is: I want to use my 12TB HDD inside the case so what's the best size AIO for the front?

Thank you!

2x140 will still fit with the hard drive cage in. hell I think you can get a 3x 120 in still if mounted right?

Thank you very much. Will do that but do you have any source I can look into for what you say?

Also I saw a video today on youtube which says the 360 A-RGB is a bit (2db) quieter from the non-rgb version due to the led ring around the fans. Do you have any knowledge about that?

Like others say the Freezer II 280 fits nicely. This is what I have in mine.
The two 140mm fans through a rad will give you more airflow than the 120s as the bottom one will just be blowing air on your drive cage.
I also managed to fit a 120mm fan under the two 140mm fans after filing off some of it's edge.

The HDD will have to go in the drive tray which does two things:
  1. It blocks some of the airflow under the PSU shroud (one reason why I don't use mine). This can be important if you have say an FE 3080 (I do) that likes low down air flow.
  2. It restricts the space for your PSU cables. So avoid a long PSU and try and get a modular one so you don't need to stuff all the cables in there.
I posted pics and things in this thread.

Has anyone had any problems with the motherboard standoffs in this case when fitting a board with a build in i/o shield? I'm trying to fit a msi z670 board which has a build in i/o shield and no matter what I do can't get all the screws in / lined up correctly. I've seen this issue mention in one of the reviews for the case.

The msi z670 board fit's absolutely perfect in fractal r6 which is the old case I was using.
