Always have somebody supervising belongings. E.G. Parents take it in turns with children in the sea. If just you and your child, leave leys with reception at hotel and take minimal items with you that can fit in trunks waterproof pockets etc. Doubt deadbeats are gonna want to steal towels and half drunk water bottles.

There’s no secret here, if you’re both in the water, there’s not much you can do except keep an eye on the bags from afar, pick a spot near the life guards or hide stuff under towels.

I just come back from holiday aboard, I just kept my phone and wallet that had a little spending cash, cash card and hotel card in my gym style rucksack.. popped the rucksack on towel and my flipflops/crocs on top of them.

You can (and I do have one) get water proof holders for phones, guess you can get one big enough for your phone and car fob.. and keep the rest of the stuff in your car.

Put them in a bag, then dig a hole in the sand (about 4 feet should do it). Carefully stash the bag at the bottom of the hole and quickly fill it in without attracting too much attention.

Once the hole is filled in you need to smooth over the surface so it looks indistinguishable from the rest of the beach. Make sure you don't mark the location with anything which could clue an onlooker in.

Then go and enjoy having a swim etc. When you need to retrieve the items simply dig them up.

I don't think there's anything practical you can do. You can do things to mitigate an opportunist theft, but if somebody is watching you then they will be paying attention to anything you do to hide your gear.

I would setup next to a family that looks trusting. Ask them to keep an eye on your gear.

Insurance.

If you leave stuff unsupervised it will eventually be stolen. There’s no effective way to hide it, the crims know all the tricks.

I have found that making the hole 6 feet deep is better, although i havent found an inconspicous way to drive my excavator onto the beach yet.

Generally i travel on my own and dont have any issue leaving stuff on the beach anywhere in the world. Just dont bring anything you dont want to lose
