Leaving everything in a hotel room I'd say is a bigger risk than just taking it to the beach and hiding under a towel/shallow mound of sand
Never felt the need to use one but years ago I saw these fake sun tan lotion bottles. You just slide the top off and can keep phone, keys etc in them. You could probably make one from an empty bottle if you cleaned it out.
