Bear Grylls

Bear is an abslute fraud. Anyone who can't see that is an idiot.

So he doesn't drink **** from snake skins? does he use a stunt double and fancy camera work lol.

It's entertainment. Who cares if he's not a tree hugger like Ray.

tbh I enjoy all these kinda programs for different reasons. BG has his few extreme stunts which is entertaining. Ray is more about the culture and bush craft which again is entertaining in a completely different way.

Here's my opinion on the matter.

Ray mears is widely regarded as an expert in survival training and techniques, he has a genuine passion for the land, people & customs of whatever area he is in.

Bear Grylls is supposed to be entertainment, pure and simple.

How can Grylls be seen to be climbing an impossible cliff face when his camera man is climbing it with ease?...why does he need to jump into a freezing cold river when he could easily have walked alongside the river to a bridge/crossing.

Its simple, he doesnt need to do these things, if he jumps into a river he heightens his chances of dying of hypothermia, if he keeps moving and keeps moderately warm whilst doing so he isnt going to die of hypothermia.

Its TV gold...people watch his show to be entertained and shocked by the things he is going to do next.

Ray Mears is an expert in the field and offers an educational insight into what he is doing.

Bear Grylls is a showman who offers shock value, nothing more.

Bear Grylls was a mammary gland a year ago when this thread was started, and he's still a mammary gland now someone decided to bump it like an arroused necrophilliac with nothing better to do.

End thread.

PK!

lol hes a decent climber / swimmer and pretty much every other outdoor activity. not sure how he can fraud this lol? wrestles with crocodiles as well! Yeah he doesnt trek around the world using a boogie board to get across oceans but what do you expect lol. He does some quite funny things and show is good entertainment not meant be nature documentary.

Hes the guy Ray Mears wished he was. Hard as a nut. Not suprising as he is ex special forces iirc.

He takes himself right to the edge of survival. Its good viewing.

Was Bear Grylls not the one that got busted staying in hotels overnight but filmed his shows to give the impression that he was on the edge of survival. :D

Bear Grylls joined the TA in 1994 got into the SAS that year only to get injured spending 18 months in rehab only to leave the forces in 1997. Did he get accepted into the SAS as a medic, it was diffently not for soldiering?

This thread is great. I saw Bear grylls for the first time about 2 months ago on channel 4 and had to admit I thought it was some sort of comedy spoof. Me and me house mate were in hysterics as he drank his own wee out of a snake skin then proceeded to fall down a hill. If I hadn't come across this thread I would have carried on believing he was some sort of fictional character in a spoof documentry! :D

I must admit the comedy factor is the only reason I watch Bear grylls.

I actually imagine Ray mears sat at home laughing as well...

In short, Ray Mears would break bread with a native tribe whilst sharing the loin of Bear Grylls, entertain the tribe with a tune played on a flute crafted from his spine, and fashion a fetching coat out of his hide for the tribal chiefs wife.

I dunno in a combat situation I'd put my money on the ex-SAS guy....

The reason for the difference of opinion is simple; the two cater for and present to different audiences.
Bear Grylls for kids, Ray Mears for adults.

Round of applause for this guy. Someone who actually understands Bear Grylls' show. It's actually quite funny watching people stress out because Bear Grylls doesn't do everything 'right' and is too posh to be an adventurer.

As zoot says, it really is pure and simple, it's TV gold and it's entertainment.

Bear Grylls is only crap if you expect a Ray Mears or David Attenborough documentary.
