Does anybody watch bear grylls on TV, it is actually amazing wat he does, makes ray mears look like kiddy stuff. I would love to try doing some of that stuff for fun.

I'm a fan.

But this thread will no doubt spark a lot of hatred, as it was evident that a lot of people hated him after we had the thread about him being made Head Scout.

What Mears does is "Bushcraft" what Grylls does is "Survival", two very differant things.

Mears shows you how to do things and do them well, make useful stuff from whats around you, Grylls teaches you to eat disgusting insects and sleep in dead cammels so you don't die in the middle of a dessert.

Personaly I prefer Mears' show because it's more relaxed and informative but I understand why Grylls is popular, he deffinetly knows his survival.

Ray Mears is far better because the stuff he teaches you is actually true. He'll also talk about the history of the area/people he's exploring, very interesting stuff.

Bear Grylls is for kids with ADD.

Well the episode with Bear in Scotland was good, where he karate chopped a rabbit.. Was hilarious!

Ray mears does do a lot of survival stuff aswell

Well yes but it's a differant kind of survival, it's less balls to the wall "I'm going to die must eat this massive **** smelling grub", he also presents more of a show in terms of telling you why these things are done and who invented the techniques, a lot of his shows are based on events/people/tribes and what they do, where as Grylls does stuff depending on where he is at the time and doesn't realy go into detail apart from what is right and what will kill you.

inlike how grylls show mislead the viewers into assuming it was all "real" but it turned out it wasnt and the show was forced to mention this at the start because really he sleeps in hotels and is surounded by medical staff while filming.

im sure most people in this thread would jump into an almost freezing lake for money with paramedics on stand by.

gotta love the grylls fans in this thread thinking he is doing all this stuff on the spur of the moment lol, do some research please

Has anyone watched Survivor man with Les Stroud? I really like it, its a shame it has finished now though.

I haven't seen the Ray Mears show.

I lived out in Canada a few years back and that was on all the time. Used to love it, though I've never seen it here in the UK, other than on YouTube.

The interesting thing about that show is that although it's very similar to what Bear does, apart from the fact Bear has the camera crew with him; Les knew nothing really about survival above what most enthusiasts knows, so it was good to see how he got on without being some kind of survival expert.

Though it didn't always work, such as with his 'survival at sea' episode.

I like both shows. Seen bear grylls more as it seems to be on discovery more often. Had to laugh at the irish one where he came in on the kerry coast. Still entertaining though and I've learnt a few things for when we have to abandon the cities because of the zombie infestation/swine flu.

Try doing some yourself you condescending *****.

That might be true for the first series but he saw how people reacted to that. In the later series he now says when he takes breaks and who he is with. For example the one in Ireland had just him and a camera man (I always feel worse for the sucker that has to do all that and carry a camera at the same time) and he didn't stop until he reached the road.

Don't swear, don't carry out personal attacks

Gilly

EDIT: Sorry gilly and arknor.. just having a bad mood day.

No great surprise this is it?

His show is about entertainment, no point endangering himself needlessly.

I'm a fan of Bear Grylls and although Ray Mears is the thinking man's version, I prefer watching Bear's shows. At the end of the day I know it's not real and anyone that felt hoodwinked when it turned out that he slept in hotels etc., was gullible in the first place.

It must be a *SERIOUS* pain even filming everything yourself, going back to get cameras after walking in to the distance, and narating, telling you how he set up fires, and so on.

I love watching Bear Grylls, it's top television watching him being a mupper. But a lot of what the man does would be downright stupid to do if you're actually in a survival situation. He's far too much of an adrenalin junkie.

Ray Mears is an actual survival expert and, yeah, his shows don't have the excitement factor of Mr. Grylls jaunts but I find their laconic ambling style rather relaxing.

I like how some people have to constantly bring this up when EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS!. Seriously, he's making an entertainment show, which he does well. People like you need to get over it and move on!
