Beard Trimmers

Had a remmington mb320. Battery died. Had a posh wahl li ion one. Battery died on that, too. Plus the heads were regular steel and not stainless (what the hell is up with that??).

Got a phillips now. Cheaper than the wahl and ses to cut better. Time will tell.

I've had the Remington Barba for a good few years, but I think it's about time for a replacement. It does the job OK, but seems to lack a bit of power now, even though I'm using it plugged in to the mains. Also, even on the longest setting, it still cuts the hair shorter than I'd like - though maybe that's down to the way I use it.

I've had two of the Remington ones, wouldn't buy another. On each of them, the battery hasn't lasted long and will barely hold enough charge for one trim after owning them for just over a year. If I leave it on charge for a day, take it off, the red light is on and it's slowed right down before I've finished the trim.

They've not been abused either. From new, I'd charge them, use them once a week or so and then charge again when the red light comes on. After just a few months, the battery life had dropped dramatically and they've just got worse.

One I could accept, two, no. They're not getting my money again.

Remingtons are good but as others have said the batteries have a habit of not holding their charge and dying. For the money the Philips one is the best bet.

I had the same on my previous trimmer by Babyliss. It just wouldn't hold charge long enough so I bought the Li-Ion Wahl back in June. It holds it charge for several weeks without have to be recharged. Only thing that would make it better is a battery indicator. Comes with quite a few accessories too. Well worth what I paid IMO.

So, my Philips beard trimmer thingy has finally gone the way of the ghost after nearly four years of abuse and I'm now after a replacement.

My only requirement is that it's adjustable, isn't ludicrously expensive (<£30) and actually does a good job.

I'm currently looking at the Remington MB320C at £23 and the Philips QT4013-23 at £30.

Has anyone here used the above or do you have any suggestions also worth looking at?

Ta.

What one did you go for in the end? What's your thoughts?

I have that Remington. Works well and is still going strong 3 years after getting it!

Another +1 for the Remington Barba. They last for years and years and years. They don't have any fiddly attachments, just a wheel to extend the guard. And a little flip-up mini trimmer to keep the neck-beard at bay.

Oh and it's cheap. So cheap. So when it does finally go (which it will after a couple of geological epochs), you just pick up another one for approximately no money.

I've had my beard trimmer for 6 years. Couldn't tell you the model, but it's a Remington and it's been brilliant. Gone through a lot, dropped countless times, crushed when moving, never been charged properly, always plugged in to the mains. Have never properly maintained it either but it still works as well as the day I got it.

So go with the Remington :D

I've got the Remmy in the OP. Works a treat! Bought it after seeing it recommended on here and have not looked back since.

I use the Philips Series 3000 QG3342/23 and would definitely recommend it for its price (~£30). I've owned beard trimmers which cost twice as much and haven't done as good a job as this one.

I have a Babyliss one with a broken guard so the length of my beard is randomly determined each time I use it. I also bought a Phillips one but the guard is so flimsy that if you apply any pressure to it the length changes, which is pointless.

Think I'll get the Remington one and see how that goes, everyone in this thread seems to like it
