I've tried, but I can never get past the itchy phase. I went two months and got rid of it because I was going insane. It never got to a particularly even look even after 2 months so I decided that I'm just not beard material.
Max growth i can sustain is 20 days... i unfortunately can't stand the itching phase.
A tip for the itchers, I was in a similar position, can grow decent beard but very spiky and itchy feeling after a certain length about 3 weeks onwards of no shaving. Beard oil for softening feels too greasy for me and leaves a shiny, wet look, the real remedy I discovered is talc.
Simple talc will stop an itchy beard growth a lot better than beard oil does for me. Medicated talc even better, just rub a small amount into a beard onto your skin and it'll relieve it, especially good for at night before sleeping, I find applying even once at night can reduce it a lot or even get rid of it the next day. Without talc I'd have to shave after 2-3 weeks without fail as I just couldn't stand it. Now I'm shaving around once a month or so and growing in a full, albeit shortish beard in between each time. I like a clean shave to reset things then just grow again, and the growth stage of a beard is nicer on me than a very long one. But yeah, talc is the solution, I can almost guarantee you can grow your beards longer without irritation if you use it.
