Becoming a bus driver?

When I was about 18, I was the only passenger on the last bus of the night on my way home and the driver offered to go about 10 minutes out of his way to drop me off pretty much outside my door before taking the bus back to the depot. That was pretty awesome.

I very seldom get the bus (typically when a walk of shame is involved!).

But in my experience they tend to be helpful when asking the route, although the odd chap is a grumpy sod!

You have to be able to drive like this*.

My dads a bus driver in Edinburgh, has been for a long time. He enjoys the job but hates the public ( Junkies, Screaming kids, Drunks etc )

Good money though!

You have to have the right personality to be a bus driver, that and have very broad shoulders to just take all the flat and walk away, in the last 10 years of working in the Bath depot I have seen well in excess of 200 drivers come and go because they cannot hack it!

And yes I am an awesome driver that will always make you smile when you look down! I have won the "Superstar" (driver of the month) award 4 times and yearly winner twice. These are only given by above and beyond the call of duty. Both times I won the yearly there was some ones life in the balance. Driving your bus to A&E gets you mega browny poi ts with the public shame the company didn't think it was such a good idea!

Im not fond of busses, I dont understand where they go and they dont give change or take debit card so im pretty much humped when it comes to paying them :(

Used buses around mine for nearly all my life, you get the crap ones who are generally unhelpful but you meet the nice ones as well that you get along with and chat with.

Got to know one so well he gave me free tickets whenever I got on the bus.

Swings and roundabouts.

Job wise I dunno if i could do the same routes everyday, I know it switches up now and again but would be so bored doing it, can be well paid though depending where you are

I use the bus daily,no different from a taxi if you ask me but on a bus there are more people,i dont want a full blown conversation but just want to get to my destination quickly and safety.

There are some times when the bus is late but then a taxi has been late also, there all a means of public transport and get you to where you want to be,there are a few nice drivers on my route and some miserable ones, just the same as if you was in asda shopping.

Op,give it a go,you might enjoy it or hate it,you wont know until you have a go.

coach driving is likely less boring, take some folk to the zoo , chill out for a few hours, bring them back.

I bet it's miserable driving regular passenger buses

I use the bus daily to get to work it does the job, not hugely reliable (i.e. you can wait for ages for one), but it's free and it is for 5 stops and takes 10 mins which I can endure.
