For those that have bought a bed and mattress, where did you buy yours from and how much did it set you back?

More interested in what mattresses people have chosen as beds are much of muchness really, ie what type, price/investment, pointers etc.

Seems like there's few places to try them out too. Ikea was meh when we looked briefly and places like Dreams are a nightmare to look around and try things out as they're usually in converted warehouses with a flock of commission-hungry sales reps following you round.

I got mine from a local family run bedding centre. We went for superking in size. Bed frame was an Ottoman and the mattress was memory foam on springs, which is the best thing I have ever! It cost a bit, think about £1K all togther but well worth it.

ErgoFlex every time!

I have a 140 cm Tempur memory foam mattress on a divan base which is brilliant - I like a firm bed.

I subsequently bought a 160 cm ErgoFlex mattress which seems very much the same but costs half as much. It is used on an Ikea slatted base which I believe is not recommended but seems absolutely fine. ErgoFlex have a sale on until 23:00 on Thursday, October 12th; a 160 cm mattress costs £539!

There are loads of online reviews of memory foam mattresses if you care to look; you could even run a search on this site ;)

For some reason I found this amusing.

Went to a local independant on a quiet weekday and spend about an hour having a look around & trying out different mattresses. It's not the kind of thing you should rush. Cost about £1100 as it's a non standard size and quite high spec. Weighs a ton which is a pita when you try to turn it over.

4k sounds a lot but then again it's where you'll spend most of your life!! (Yes, I know we may only be in bed for 8 hours but even when awake you're not using any one such item as you would a bed).

I would never buy anything from Dreams, or any other big bed place to be honest, complete rip off. I'd recommend buying from smaller independent shops, as not only will you get much more for your money, but you'll get better quality.

O and ignore all the marketing rubbish about non turn mattresses, it's a huge con, and a cost cutting one at that. You want a mattress that you can flip over (double sided) not rotate, as it'll last longer.
