Been undecided all day, PS3 or not

There has been nothing on 360 since Gears 2, and the only thing I will deffo be buying on the horizon so far is Splintercell. It really is dry atm. There has been a much greater amount of game announcements for PS3 this year though we will just wait and see what E3 offers.

Halo wars was a prett big release in feb/march.

If there were any secret huge games coming out this year, we would have known about them by now. Anything Sony or microsoft announce at E3 will either be games we already know about or games for 2010.

Sony has had the better exclusives so far this year, theres no doubt about that.

If they were huge secrets then you wouldnt know about them yet. :)

I've never really know developers manage to keep secrets until E3, Only game that shocked me was Mass Effect. I think that got a secret unveiling.

But other than that, With the internet being so accessible, Most games in developement are known about. And the only games they suprise us with, are games with planned development, and so will more likely be 2010 games

Loads of replies here thanks, i think a few people have hit the nail and its more of shiny new toy than anything else, money isnt a massive issue but the 40 gig and 80 gig seem to be the same price, the actual console on its own is the same price as the bundles with 2 games which is odd. I think for me its major point is bluray and built in wireless.

You should be able to find a 40Gig cheaper, and the only difference is that the 40Gig comes with a crap controller & has a HDD half the size. As for packs well some do some don't but the console will be the same.

If you want a Blu-ray player, although more expensive than alternatives the PS3 is very good...

Between the consoles it really only comes down to the online side of things but more importantly what console your friends have.

Microsoft will NOT and Nintendo will NOT be announcing a new console in the next 6-12 months. Microsoft need to make more profit from X360 my friend. Only now are they getting profit from it but they spent billions. Nintendo just need to come up with more games to maintain good sales so i dont see them in a hurry to create a new console, no too early for that.

Playstation 3 will NOT be obsolete, thats a bleedin stupid thing to say.
For the OP i recommend you get a PS3 and enjoy both platforms, as a gamer or movie fan both consoles should offer you hours upon hours of entertainment over the next couple of years yet and theirs nothing wrong with owning more than one console you know. X360 2nd hand value makes it not really worth selling unless you need the funds from it to purchase a PS3.

Regards PS3 its best has yet to come, thats what im saying here...

Nintendo will be releasing a Wii HD in 2010 and I'm becoming more and more sure that MS will also announce an iterative upgrade of the 360 in 2010 (probably E3) with maybe even a fall 2010 launch. If the new console is even say just 10 times more powerful for the same price where does that leave the PS3 and it's further 7 year lifecycle? It's the hardcore that have bought it so far so why wouldn't they turn to the more powerful machine?

Re. console exclusives. No one is saying PS3 doesn't have a fantastic year ahead but to argue that MS won't have any exclusives because they've not announced anything formally yet is a tad naive. As well as Ninja Blade, Halo Wars and a lot of very good Fallout DLC so far this year, there's Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean IV next month (both of which I'll be getting). There's Splinter Cell: Conviction, Forza 3, APB, Mass Effect 2, Crackdown 2, Huxley, Halo ODST, Lost Planet 2, Alan Wake, it's known Rare and Lionhead both have secret projects in the works and MS set up another new internal studio last year. Ken Levine has hinted about a new project, Mystwalker have been quiet for over a year and I'd imagine MS being MS they've tied up at least another one or two big 3rd party exclusive.

Re. your list. LA Noire has not been confirmed as a PS3 exclusive and Alone in the Dark?

I think you've fallen for Sony bull-cak in the wrong way..

When they say a further 7 years, all they've committed to is the same commitment they have with the PS2..

i.e. they can bring out a PS4 at any point they wish, but they will 'support' and keep selling the PS3 after the PS4 comes out.. in the same way they did with the PS2/3

The reason they keep saying this is just marketing 'spin' as they want you to believe the PS3 is 'so powerful' it's built to last for so much longer then the competition, which we know is complete lunacy..

They do seem desperate to 'eek' this generation out as much as possible, only becuase of the terrible financial implications this generation has brought for Sony (And MS for that matter)

I was in the same situation myself, i wasnt playing my 360 a lot at all for months, and i really wanted to get a PS3 for some reason. I did end up buying one, and while i was impressed with it, i still found myself not playing it that much like the 360, so in the end i flogged it. My opinion is if you find yourself not playing the 360 much, the same will probably happen with the PS3 (unless there are some PS3 only games that you really really really want to play, for me it was MGS4, but thats done now ;)).

I'm actually totally with you on this one.

The hardcore? I'm not hardcore. The last game I bought for my PS3 was Metal Gear Solid 4 when it came out.

I am starting to think people take consoles as serious as religions these days.

In fairness to the consoles lifespan...
Do people here not find it quite amazing how superbly graphical and also from a technical ability many games on these consoles are quite staggering.

COD 4, Killzone 2, GOW2, PGR4, GT5P just a few that made me go WOAHHH!!!

The best bit, well even better is coming!
Id say no new XBOX before 2012

No reason for Nintendo to release another console as the Wii is hugely successful. If MS release a new console it will be financial suicide.

I'm sure MS will have exclusives, but to defend them mentioning rubbish like Ninja Blade really doesn't inspire gamers. As for the rest well their either multiplat/timed exclusives or not arriving this year.

No it's not. lol, far from it infact. The Sony playstation brand name has sold it more so than the hardware. The PS3 has hardly gone to a hardcore crowd.

Also,I'm guessing you've been reading analyst reports, I believe the Nintendo Wii HD version, thats due in 2010. As that's come from Nintendo themselves. But to be honest, The Wii standard definition is fad, HD definition, If it's the same controller, with the same style games. I wouldn't want it personally. I know my mum would however :D

But Microsoft havent said anything to do with a new console, And so I'll wait to hear it before I start saying MS will beat Sony because of a possible console.

I could say exactly the same in reverse.

I haven't regretted getting a PS3 for one second.
It reduced my well specced (at the time) PC to a basic media server, it's got to such a point that I'm going down to a mini-itx system shortly, as it's ridiculously overspecced for what little I use it for these days. I looked at installing Linux on my PS3 and getting rid of the PC entirely, but Linux couldn't quite provide everything I needed, although maybe in future that will change.
I use the PS3 for watching all my media (often streamed from the PC via my router, although I'm about to upgrade the PS3 HDD to 320GB, so less streaming will be needed in future), playing games, watching telly and keeping up with my family via video chats.
Next stop will be buying a PSP, which I'll use for remote play and watching live TV on the move, thanks to Play Tv.
I won't comment on the 360, because I don't have one, but from my perspective, the PS3 is an absolutely awesome, multi-talented piece of hardware.

Seriously unlikely tbh.

Most of them are on PC though so they're not really exclusives per se. Which is why the 360 line-up isn't that great for me simply as I'm a PC 1920x1200 16AA whore.

I gotta admit, ps3 is SLOWLY and I mean VERY SLOWLY getting its online act together. the net code it uses or what ever is doing its job is doing its job very well, I never get any lag games, I never even think of aiming infront to match up the lag, I just do it and its done. where as halo 3 was a bloody nightmare. Bullets not hitting targets (even still ones) needing to aim infront of the character etc etc. and thats just comparing net play.

The 360 has the ps3 hands down on online functionality but sony are slowly doing something about it. I just dont understand why they didnt do it from the get go.

I recently got a ps3 for exclusives and bluray functionality. (although could have used a BD drive in my media centre) I must admit the 360 has the ps3 for online hands down but the ps3 is by no means pap at it either!

I have thoroughly enjoyed some ps3 exclusives (uncharted/LBP/Killzone2 etc) and blu rays with a decent surround sound is awesome. (movie nights with the misses couldn't get any better)

I say just go for it, if you find that you don't enjoy it then flog it. They are not hard things to sell tbh.

as for the controller argument. I prefer the 360 pad for build shape and stick reasons.

I'm completely impartial when it comes to the 360 and PS3. I have both but only recently got the PS3, largely for KZ2 and to experience LBP.

Gotta say, off the bat I was very impressed. It is far more sophisticated than the 360 but I ultimately stopped gaming on it and have already turned back to Xbox Live for most stuff. KZ2 didn't quite do it for me after the initial few weeks of gaming and I found myself straying back to CoD4 on my 360.

Just remember that, for many, the PS3 is ultimately a media player first and console second. I don't regret getting one because I am using it daily for media purposes. The browser on it is also amazing - you can watch youtube vids full screen on your HDTV for example. The online is getting better and better too and once games like MAG come out I think the 360 will be left behind, perhaps!
