For me it gonna be a bun fight between 1080ti and 2080.

If perf is 15- 20% better and new card is around 650-700 will plump for that.

If perf is less i will hope the 1080ti drops to 550 pick that up and wait for next ti
It's not so clean and dry cut though. You have to take into account the amount of driver support you'd get with the card.

As times goes by, the 1080Ti will drift further and further away from the performance of 2080 in newer games simply due to Nvidia not optimising for the old gen cards for new games.

Those 'Big Format Gaming Displays' are an absolute joke.

Literally the only thing I can think of where a BFGD monitor might be better is if you think that 20-25ms is too much lag and need something with sub 10ms.

Me....I wouldn't notice.

It will be reflected in the sales figures that and the eventual closure of the brand after 2 years. They will get some traction in esports and thats about it. 99.99% of gamers wont even know they exist

Nvidia pushing the elite gamer to newer tech. Not everyone can afford it though :(

Can't wait to see how many people get shafted with this release. :D

Seriously though, restricting the RTX features to the 2070 and above is a major dick move. I assume it'll take a couple of years for it to even be worth having anyway but if AMD isn't competitive by that time (which is looking less and less likely), I highly doubt nVidia will start bringing RTX to their 3060 or 4060 GPUs. Even if you ignore RTX for now, it's been two years since Pascal was released so if there isn't a significant jump in performance per price, get ready for a good number of "wilderness years" (a la CPUs 2010-2016).

It's odd though because AMD is always accused of spending resources developing new technology that either takes too long to come into use or never does. nVidia are doing just that here, but hopefully it's alongside some general performance jumps.

I bought a 65" LG OLED B6 TV in 2016 for £2400.

Yeah it might not have G-sync and 120hz - But the picture quality is so superior to any LED 'BFGD' TV/monitor that they are due to release. Pure blacks, great HDR etc.

And as on 2019, the next batch of TV's should support HDMI 2.1 which will natively support 4k@120hz and support variable sync technology anyway.

Gamers aren't as keen on having perfect blacks - most would rather have 120Hz first, and after trying it myself, so would I. Much better gaming experience.

Depends what I was doing but playing closer up on a big format display I'd definitely want lower input latency, more than 60Hz and some form of adaptive sync - which pretty much means G-Sync for me realistically.

If I was sitting back and using a controller 10 v 25ms input latency would be less of a big deal but I don't tend to do that so much personally.

I've got a 100hz Ultra-wide 34" monitor. It's a good screen but looks ***** compared to my TV.

I know what you are saying. Back when I played Overwatch on PC it was useful to have a monitor with quick response, but I use my actual TV for 33% TV/33% Movies/33% gaming so an OLED is just a better all round prospect for me personally.

I'd rather spend £3000 on a lovely 65" OLED TV and spend a few hundred quid on a monitor for PC gaming.

100% - for front room, OLED every time. I think the big format gaming displays are meant for a separate gaming room though rather than to replace your current TV.

I've got myself a decent TV which does 120 Hz @ 1080p, which is perfect for me. Having tried 4K gaming, I just didn't find it offered enough of a bump in quality to justify the extra cost of more expensive monitor/GPU.

I'm waiting for 1440P 144 Hz monitors to drop more. It doesn't feel right spending so much on one when I spent only a little more for a good 4K TV (XE85).

It seems so, as who the hell is going to put a 65" display on their desk??! But at the same time, who has a separate dedicated gaming room?? It just seems like such a niche product in many ways, almost a proof of concept more than anything else. I reckon they'll sell more than a few, but Nvidia and monitor manufacturers can't be ignorant to what gamers really want... basically everything that the BFG displays have but in a smaller package circa 40" or so. There's no question such a product would sell in greater numbers at the right price. I'm sure it will happen in time, and we obviously need faster GPUs to get the most out of something like this anyway. We just have to be patient.

I haven't got a gaming room, but I do have a 55 inch TV in the office I use for gaming. Handy for games I want to play on a large display, like RPGs etc

Plus, if you're a massive gamer, I think you'd be more likely to pickup one of these displays for your front room. 90% of my TV usage is for gaming, so if they were cheaper (in general and compared to an OLED), I'd likely get one.

I'm waiting in interest to see what comes from this release, but I wont part money on FE's. As usual I will wait to see what comes from the after market overclocked designs where you can get more bang for buck or at times more bang to keep you running for longer between upgrades.

I did though put my foot down over paying the premium for a 1080 last time, hence why I have a 1070 currently.

How? Even that top end RTX8000 looked like it was only managing a fairly acceptable frame rate on what was ( compared to a whole game ) a fairly simple object scene. The other Quadro cards all had less RT ability ... so that would manage less too.

Trickle that to a 2070 ... wh at ray trace performance are you realistically going to get ? Not much ... so why bother. ITs just not ready for mainstream gaming at the moment.

+1

Couldn't go back to any other display. LCD just looks trash compared to OLED. Only reason I use my monitor for online shooters is because it is more convenient to use at the desk with a M+K. Stick my E7 in 120HZ mode and input lag feels less than my monitor.

And I much prefer the way OLEd handles motion too, even in 60HZ mode, it just looks better than any monitors I've seen (including 120+HZ monitors), there is zero trailing/ghosting.

People always say "blacks don't matter, it's not like you sit in a pitch black room with a black screen on" and then when they see my OLED, even during the day with normal content and some "black" stuff in background i.e. space films, they are wowed by it, having lower black levels contribute to the contrast ratio, which in return, improves IQ vastly.
