Beijing 2008

Played this round my mates on the 360 today and sucked at button bashing on the 360 pad so ended up going with the joystick waggling, now I have 2 blisters on my palm! :(

Yeah sure it was joystick waggling that did it :p

Just about to load it up myself for a game with the Mrs, she loves these games normally.

Much tougher than I thought it would be, much more technical. The sort of game that will last til the next olympics trying to perfect.

Not bad, although I'm not a fan of wiggling or button bashing for the 400metres.

Almost shot a perfect archery round but let do of the stick by accident and scored a 5 :(

I can't beat my discus score no matter how hard I try. It's driving me mad.

Slipping down the rankings too - 43rd now. And that was yesterday too. :(

Torn on getting this. I used to enjoy the old Olympic games of the past (one was on the Playstation and the other was Olympic Gold 92!) but heard mixed views on the game.

I suppose if you enjoy button bashing and the Olympics then it's quite good yeah? Wouldn't like to destroy a 360 pad just for it though.

ooo if its button mashing im there with bells on. track and field was amazing and the button bashing games on mario party are a guarenteed win for my crazy fingers :p

I sold mine. I played it last night with the Mrs and had a go today as well. I quite liked it but it will be pretty difficult to get good competition with a mate that just wants to play every now and then in MP local.

I also found the camera angles for events like long jump, triple jump etc pretty poor. Getting a good take off point became annoying.

The track events had very little imagination while diving and shooting events etc are pretty technical. I liked most events except the track.

Didnt try the 800m but jotstick waggling for 45 seconds in the 400m just became annoying. I even tried playing it with my gardening gloves on as the stick was ripping my hand up.

I didnt like the starting of the 100m, even when I thought I was nailing it the AI would be at the 5metre mark before my guy got going. Loads of events and stuff like diving and shooting look superb.

I still prefer athlete kings on the saturn over this though. So I used the money to buy two new Saturn pads instead :)

Oh it also has the most rock hard set of achievements I think I've seen in a game for a while. When you consider 9.80 is needed for the achievement in 100m and 10 secs gets you well up the leaderboard thats some tough target.

I'm gonna rent the summer games one and see what thats like.

Good game this, painful on the palms though.

Played a 10 event game with mates over the weekend just using running and swimming events, big mistake as hands were a little sore afterwards.

Still, 3 WR broken in the swimming and another in the cycling (now thats a boring and painful event).

Cannot understand the kayaking and the judo though, and table tennis is the most boring event of them all.

After reading a lot of positive comments on AV Forums about this game I picked it up today after trading some stuff in.

I'm looking forward to bashing it out later..........then I'll probably see what the game is like ;)

Let us know how you find the game ScarySquirrel am tempted to get this but have heard a lot of mixed reviews about it

And your arm dies after 1 event. I prefer the 1 button bash of the old school as i have a turbo finger but when it comes to 2 buttons i'm pants :(

If it's anything like the old school games of the sort then I used to use a clipper lighter (the silver end) and place it in between the 2 buttons and then go rapid side to side whilst doing my Miaggi breathing.

Finger in sock all the way. Or using bending your finger and using your nail on the buttons whilst franticly jiggling back and forth in a suggestive manner.

gotta say im dissapointed with this game. i probably shudnt have hoped for it to be as good as track n field and i wudnt have been so dissapointed but meh.
it tries to be far too technical and get away from simple button bashing.which is a mistake as simple button bashing was the whole appeal of these games.
that stupid trigger start thing means i cant button bash properly as i place the pad on the chair/sofa and grip with my legs then beat down on it with 2 index fingers. but i somehow have to curl a finger round and press the trigger. urgh :(

some events are a laugh though so i think itll be worth it once i get back to uni and use it as a pre night out drinking game.

this game relies too much on the analogue sticks and not enough on buttons.
all im gonna say now is wtf at diving?how stupidly difficult. maybe my joysticks are a bit stiff but fluid motions on diving are impossible.

EDIT - also love how its been hacked already and half the world records are fake and just lollable. like the shooting record of something in the millions when the highest possible is like 110 or something stupid. so thats annoying not knowing whether the records your aiming for are real or just acceptable looking fakes.

My mate rented it and we played it all day, needless to say, that was the last time we played it. It was ok, a good laugh, some of the events were tedious and just plain dull (diving for one and) and some were downright hilarious (the dancing gymnastics and the canoes), wouldnt have paid the full whack for it and would have kept it to rent

I think I am going to take mine back to the shop. It is good but I just can't see me playing it past a couple of weeks. I would rather spend the money on something else.
