I want to start playing Oblivion properly tonight. I've got plans to mod it all up and tweak it as best I can so its a generally a smooth experience whilst retaining as much of the good looks as I can.

Anyway that aside I'm wanting to create a character with the intention of becoming a vampire. I'm not really sure what kind of character I want them to be but I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on what class and attributes are best suited to being a vampire?

Also any tips on mods would be great.

Thanks

A vampire is more of an annoying nuisance then a character to aspire to for most people. I couldnt wait to get cured and back to the main game, though it took a while :(

I guess these may be useful though.

Sneak
Secuirty
Speechcraft
Alchemy
Conjuration
Mysticism
illusion

I don't get why people find being a vampire so hard!

I've been a vampire for half of my game time and it's never bothered me, as long as you drink from some sorry beggar's neck at night time you can walk around in the day time as much as you like.

Also, once you become a vampire and drink some blood you only turn into a level 1 (sun starts to hurt) vampire if you sleep so if you're a level 0 vampire (sun doesn't hurt) and you need to speed travel somewhere then just speed travel there, as long as you don't sleep you're vampirism wont increase. Just sleep every time you level but make sure there's a beggar nearby.

It's really not a bother at all, here's my daily agenda starting from 10pm:
Drinks blood
Do whatever I need to do, travel, fight, whatever
When I sleep (could be days after) I turn into a higher level vampire but I don't sleep until it's night time, when I awake I go suck some blood...

And so the cycle goes.

I'm still determined to give it a go.

Was looking at this mod in terms of balancing things out.

I really like the idea of vampire aging. What I'd really like to do is create a robe that reduces fire / sun damage. I liked the idea of having to seak cover, or my movments in daylight being limited or requiring me to wear a robe, it's the kind of thing I used to love in vampire masquerade.

Want to let my character become powerful as a vamp but don't want to be shunned by the NPC's.

but the real power is there when you don't feed for a few days.

I've only used higher level vampire power twice...once a long time ago when I needed to be invisible in a stealth mission and another time when one of my missions was right outside the town so I could get there and back quickly.

Besides, level 0 vampirism is good enough! The sun doesn't hurt you, you get 'hunter's site' which is possibly the most useful ability on the game and you get amazing stat boosts. You also get immunity to paralysis and diseases.

It just takes a bit of common sense to say "alright I need to sleep so I'll go to town, in a building, rest until 8pm, level up and drink some blood and off to work we go".

So what about a class? I'm thinking human atm, don't really know what style of player I'd be after though.

I'm taking it that stealth and vampirism pretty much go hand in hand?

Yes and I think humans do make the best vampires, mines a human and he's very versatile, he can go from stealth to skull crushing to pin point archery all very easily, I never use magic much but he's also pretty handy with the spells.

Don't listen to people who moan about being a vampire, as long as you drink some blood every time you sleep it's no bother at all.

And I don't know about everybody else but at higher levels I only seem to have to sleep (to level up for example) every few game days and if you don't sleep you don't give your character the chance to increase in vampirism.

I've played this game right through a few times. Two of the times i went out of my way to become a vampire as soon as possible by joining the dark brotherhood. Great gains for hardly any hassle.

Nah I hated being the cat guys and a vampire, I wanted to look at my characters face, red eyes and teeth for the win :)

Humans look the coolest when there vampires.

Yep, I just wish it didn't make you ugly! Being a vampire should make you look more beautiful, albeit with red eyes and pointy teeth. But it makes you look 10 years older at level-0 vampirism and you look completely wet-ragged at higher level vampirism.

So I created my character last night. He's imperial. I only played for about 15 mins so I'm still under the prison, making my way.I'm loving the katana I picked up.

Haven't actually picked the attributes yet. I know I'm going to be upping stealth.
Am I right in saying that if I become a vampire people will be less helpful owing to my appearance? If so would it help to try and up my charisma or whatever the equivalent is?

When you get to the end of the dungeon beneath the prison you get to chose all your attributes and also change any thing you have done. Do a proper save at this point so you can go back to here again if you decide to change your build later.

Im not sure whether looks of the vampire cause any problems but NPC's do comment on how ill you look.

Dark Elf imo, and if your going to be a vampire and mod the game up make sure to get the mod that makes nights longer so you don't spend half your game time waiting for nightfall.

Well I'm in the market for some sun proof robes atm.

I know I'm only starting off but I'm really liking this game so far. I let it auto scale the quality and it set it to high :D
