Being a vampire in oblivion..

Preventing sun damage kinda takes away all the bad things about playing as a vampire really turns you into more of a power leveled character.

Hmm intresting :) might try the vamp path!, So once you are a 0 vamp you can do quests in the day? what if you cant go out at day? what can you do at night?

I really can't get into this game at all.

I played it for like 3 hours, got semi-stuck and gave up.

(stuck at this castle inside Oblivion on a side quest to save someone who might be in there. This boss looking dude just 3 shots me.)

I completley agree with you. I'm not on about preventing it completley, just something that would allow me to move about for relatively short periods and otherwise offer no protection. So that I could move in daylight should I really need to but it wouldn't be ideal or overly practical to do so all the time. This would be enforced when you actually look at the character 'cause he'd appear covered. It's just something I was thinking about.

I don't really want to remove anything from the vamp experience, it would just be cool to think I could partially cover myself from the sun and move from place to place should the need arise.

You don't need to worry about sun damage, at night time drink somebody's blood (which makes you a level 0 vamp) you can walk around in the daylight as much as you want and at level 0 vampirism your slightly altered appearance doesn't effect how NPCs interact with you, at level 0 vampirisms there is absolutely no negative side to being a vampire and you get great benefits.
honestly, I don't see why people think it's such a big deal. Just drink some blood every night and you can walk around with super vamp abilities without sun damage or people looking at you weird.
Besides, from the first day that you become a vampire you should drink some blood giving you the ability to walk around in daylight, from then on your vampirism will only evolve if you sleep so when you have to sleep to level up for example just sleep indoors until night-time (past 8pm) and drink some blood.

I keep thinking of ways to explain it better but after being a vampire for a day or so you should get used to it.

Then again your not using your vampirism to the best of your ability if you drink so often and stay as a lowbie vampire.

To hell with drinkin blood get those pro powers :D

where do you go ingame to become a vamp? ive restarted again , ive just talked to Jauffreh about the emp's son blah blah.

You can get it from being attacked by a vampire, by doing so much of the Dark Brotherhood quests or cheat.

You're right but evolving your vampirism takes planning, you have to decide when you're gonna use your powers and why, when you'll have to leave town to get to your waypoint, how long the quest will take and how long it will take to get back.
Besides I've only used my higher powers twice in super stealth or really hard missions.

I'm just trying to emphasise how easy it is to get the level 0 vampirism benefits without having the negative side.

id rather not cheat where is the best place to get attacked by a vamp , or find the dark brotherhood?

Dark Brotherhood is probably the most fun way to get it.

Kill and NPC to get started there

**Spoilers off**

No just a random NPC, like say a beggar in the city or something, just make sure nobody else is around to see it and you should be fine.

Kind of negates what I was after though. It'd be nice to be level 3 vamp, don a robe and be able to move around in the sun a little, and presumably talk to npc's cause my face was hidden.

Just my kind grand plan.

i've bit the same human over and over , nowt happends :P

***SPOILER BELOW*********

Im up to the part where you have to kill a necromancer im a member of the back hand now I had to slay the members in the brotherhood sanctuary which was damn fun indeed! So reminded me of star wars the way the vampire story is going :P

****END****

I'll be sure to update when I get my character vamped. In the meantime I was wanting to chat performance tweaks.

My specs are:

Opteron 146 @ 2.8 ghz
2 gigs of ram
x800 pro
x-fi fatality

I'm using these in oblivion.ini atm:

change uExterior Cell Buffer=36 to uExterior Cell Buffer=72.
change iPreloadSizeLimit=26214400 to iPreloadSizeLimit=500000000.
change bUseThreadedTempEffects=0 to bUseThreadedTempEffects=1.
change bUseThreadedParticleSystem=0 to bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1.
change iThreads=3 to iThreads=100.
change iOpenMPLevel=10 to iOpenMPLevel=25.

I fired it up, and even though things were running smoothly before, it does feel a good deal smoother now.

I'm also using the 8 polygon grass mod 'cause it just seems silly not to really.

I updated my video card drivers this morning as my old ones were dated from February, and I'm already using a hefty overclock on my card. I may overvolt it more if I can really be bothered but I'm hitting 580 mhz on the core and 600 mhz on the memory at the moment.

Just using AA x2 with bloom at 1024 x 768 at the moment. I find this looks descent. I might try a higher res at some stage.

I've not bothered with HDR yet as I'm not that keen on it. I used it in CSS and it just put me off. Seemed very strong for lighting, a little ott.

Anyway anyone got any good tips for performance?

Aye, if the planning around daylight doesn't bother you like it doesn't bother me much then it's really fun being a high level vampire, you get a good charm spell to charm people into liking you too so your ugly face doesn't bother people too much :D

It also 'feels' cool being a level 3 vampire if you know what I mean, besides, I think having to be tactical about being a vampire makes the game more fun, it involves you a lot more, gives you a reason to sleep more often and basically gives you a routine as if you're living inside the game.

Without being a vampire I think it would be a lot less interesting, you day consists of:
Fast Travel to location
Do mission
Fast Travel to Town
Get mission
Fast Travel to location
...

and again and again and again and again.

If you don't think having to invest some thought into the game regarding being a vampire is annoying and hard then kudos to you :) I'm glad some people are coming to their senses, it's possibly the most fun part of the game.

Hmm, well I've just closed my first Oblivion gate, so I'm going to get the next bit out of the way then I'll see about the dark brotherhood.

You know at the very beginning of the game, when the Captain of the Blades gets killed and you take her katana, the other guard eventually takes it off of you and says it'll go in some rememberance hall somewhere. Is there any way I can get that sword back? Like go to the hall and nick it?

btw Tigjaw, thats pretty much the vamp experience I'm after.
