Behind you... Naked!
There is a lad across the road who is somhow able to hack into my LAN within minutes of whatever I do?

I have a Linksys WAG354G Router, its connected to my LAN, and also the missus' PC ( Wireless )

This guy can somehow use my internet quite simply sminutes after I do anything?

I have passwords, 128bit WEP and I have tried blocking his IP and he is back on and connected in only 2 or 3 minutes??? AAARGGGHH!!!!

Ok, so, when he connects, I can see his PC, or rather his SHARE DOCUMENTS folder... In this Fodler he keep putting a message to me, saying that he is back on, and there is nothign I can do... A couple of them have been screenshots of my files etc.

So far, he has NOT done any dammage, but as I use my PCs all to let each other see all the files etc, so I can grab any file from any PC at any time, I know that its only a matter of time before he does decide to do somehtign crappy to me.

What the hell can I do?

Ideally, I would just love to shut his PC down remotely, and I have done this before with my own PC on the LAN, but I have been trying it out and somehow Im no longer able to do it?

Im hoping that maybe I can do it to his once I know how?

So, erm... How?

What else can I do to get him to get lost?

Simply get a wireless router with WPA2 encryption, that'll stop any unwarranted access.

Or if you wanted to confuse this guy, use a dynamic WEP-key implementation and have it change keys every minute. So his efforts at trying to hack your lan will be futile, but that'll take some know-how.

3 things

1) Download a virus and spread it to him

2) Turn off your router just after sending him a message (this way he will think he can't see the network - and will really mess him up)

3) Go round and tell him off

(none to be taken seriously ;))

Thanks guys.

Yes, I think a different Router with better protection would be my fist port of call

I have recently bought a DLINK but I just cannot get that connected at all, so Im unsure if its either works properly, or maybe its not compatible with my ISP??? - Im on XLN if anyone knows?

The idea of going round might not be a sensible idea... This guy is HUGE!

Well, maybe too huge... He wont outrun a hose pipe will he?

Seriously though, this guy knows I know who he is and he is an arrogant git.

I am changing things around and sure enough, he loses me for a while but as I said, in a few minutes, he is back, and saturating my bandwidth.

WPA2? - What models do you recommend there then? - Not heard of WPA2... Only recently heard of WPA to be honest, so Ill look into that thanks.

Mac address - Yeah, didnt think of that... Never done it before so should be fun... Might be anyway... Again, never done it so it will need looking into, however, should be fairly obvious I recon...

Ok, thanks guys... I will see what I can do with what I have rather than spending even more money when it might not be necessary...

As far as MAC filtering goes here I'd probably spoof my MAC if I was going to filter it here. If he's already on your network he might already have your MACs recorded so it wouldn't do much if he could just spoof in return.

Also, not broadcasting SSID won't keep anyone but the most amateur crackers out.

Could be a script kiddie. He seems to fit the persona, arrogent, cocky, a show off etc.

You could also try 801.1x port based authentication, most routers support it via a RADIUS server. (if your router doesnt support WPA(2))

WPA with a long, randomly generated key will solve this in no time. the only way to crack WPA is through brute force. the longer and more complex the passkey is the more unlikely it becomes that he'll ever break it.

Change the SSID and then hide it so he cannot see the network..

simple software such has netstumbler will get past that.

However used with other methods will be good.

As already mentioned, just use a long WPA2 key, with MAC filtering and hidden SSID should be enough to deter him.

or just setup a honeypot, and steal all his passwords.

A vote fort he police, just after you have transferred kiddie pr0n to his PC. He ain't gonna hack you from jail!

Seriously though:

WPA(2) Security
Lock down by MAC address
Change SSID

Or a better idea, inform as he is connecting to your Wireless router and sending traffic through it, you have installed a packet sniffer and are currently watching all his website access and password entries...thank you kindly!

Remember kiddies if your using someone else's router this is all more than possible :)
