That's just to eliminate dangerously slow cars, his practice pace (and the fact he is in a Merc.) shows 107% doesnt really apply here.

Do one lap at Manor pace in Q1 and then don't bother if there is any doubt.

But if they deliberately miss qualifying with a healthy car then I'm sure the stewards wouldn't look so favourable. I suspect he may use old tyres.

Surely he would have to do some installation laps at the very least to check all systems are running as expected? Mind you I guess thats what he did today for one replacement at least.

Has anyone ever purposefully missed quali before, cant think of any off the top of my head. Not sure the FIA would look favourably on it if so (being a precedent?)

Will we? Maybe up to a point.

The Merc. suffers following others, and LH is know for getting easily frustrated when being stuck behind slower cars. Once/if he reaches the likes of TR, FI or Williams he'll find it tough unless Merc. have made some serious gains again during the "break".

It doesn't, Hamilton has never had a problem overtaking people in the Merc. When Rosberg struggles to pass people it's that the car sucks in dirty air, that the tires get destroyed, that he didn't even try to pass Hamilton because you just destroy tires, etc.

When Hamilton follows Rosberg and attempts to pass... he does, his tires aren't destroyed and he has no real problem fighting.

Hamilton has gotten stuck behind people but that is at tracks that make overtaking difficult, Spain behind Vettel, where again his tires didn't get destroyed(this is last year) following Vettel for laps and he had no ill effects from doing so. He eventually switched strategies to leapfrog him and did so. At tracks with no real issues overtaking the Merc shows absolutely no problems following people. It's only at tracks like Monaco, Singapore, Spain, Hungary at times that overtaking becomes much more difficult, but that was the case with all cars in all eras, some tracks just have short straights, bad corners leading into them, narrow corners or very small usable lines in a corner that make overtaking hard.

It's a complete myth that the Merc is bad following other cars, it's also a myth that tires get 'destroyed' following another car, might reduce stint length marginally but those that say it are almost always using it as an excuse. Rosberg said it in China as a reason for never once attempting to pass Hamilton last year when again the following race Hamilton got much closer and for much longer up behind Vettel's gearbox and had no problems.

The closest example I can think of is Arrows in 2002. At Magny-Cours they did the bare minimum laps and deliberately set a time over the 107% limit as they couldn't afford to race.

As you can understand Bernie didn't take too kindly to that and he threatened legal action if it was repeated in the next race at Hockenheim. Needless to say they qualified as normal there, both retired early in the race (presumably as the parts they were using were so worn) and they folded before Hungary.

How is he got a grid penalties ending in 5points, thought each component was 10 places.
At least he now has three brand new components of evech part for the rest of the year now and even if he loses the lead this weekend it won't be by many points, maximum of 6 point lead for cry baby

I've not idea what you've just said.

Wouldnt be the first time this year, he seems to have a complex about allowing people by... rolling ******* road block!
The frustrating thing is he's a decent driver. After a relatively slow start he's been consistently on Grosjean's pace, but he's got little awareness for those around him.

Somewhat oddly I suppose that goes hand in hand with his teammate's past reputation.

Isnt it a 10 point penalty for first then 5 points for every subsequent replacement part?

55 places, he'll have to run wont he. didn't they bring ina rule after so many people sat out saving tyres.

but he now has 3 new components for each part of the PU.

These rules are so dumb sometimes. F1 is about racing. If he's a got a grid penalty that puts him right at the back, so let him sit it out and fight his way through the pack.

By the way Glaucus, what on earth is wrong with your keyboard? :p

Articles are really vague.

Has LH doubled up on replacement parts? Stupid rules if that is allowed? Just take 5 of each part in a single race.

edit:

The rules should be that if you hit the 5 part limit, then any new part should render old parts illegal to use anymore.
