Yeah Verstappen is going to get boned. He'll only get a couple of laps out of them and then have to pit, and be stuck in traffic behind people on mediums..

Given the two DRS zones with only La Source between them I think Verstappen will have enough to come through on new softs, unless he ends up behind a really quick car in a straight line (Hamilton, a Manor or a Williams for example).

Whether he'll lose time or not is another matter, but I'd be willing to bet there's a couple of alternative strategies that unfold through the race with a one or two rolling the dice using the medium (and I'll bet Hamilton is one of them).

Most of the top ten are starting on softs as that was the tyre they used to get through Q2. Out of the top five only Verstappen is starting on the super softs.

And once again I forget the current rules, was thinking back to when the top 10 had to use their q3 set.;)

I cannot but wonder if most cars will be forced into a two stop strategy today, because of the very high minimum pressures and pretty high weather temps, when in the past some could do the race on a one stop around lap 20. The big question will be what other compounds will they use besides a set of mediums, some might just about get benefit perhaps from a set of supers and a set of softs.

You would imagine that it would be minimum two stops given the degradation experienced so far this weekend.

It should be interesting to see the Mercedes strategists wrestle with two Red Bulls on different strategies, while maybe also needing to keep an eye on Ferrari.

I was really disappointed with the Honda power update. Honda have made some great improvements so far this year, but relative to the improvements made by others they're still a long way off.

Merc has by far the best tire life in high deg situations. Like two races they had trouble getting their tires hot enough and couldn't get grip as in Singapore when Ferrari got them. This wasn't a tire deg issue. At like a dozen races every other team will pit after say 15 laps while Mercs will go to 20 before pitting.

Merc have been underplaying all weekend largely because there is no contest between Hamilton and Rosberg so no need to push. Unless Rosberg screws up it will be another Baku, he'll be off in the distance, he'll go far longer than others on the same tires and RBR won't come close to them. If they come at all close it will be because Rosberg is cruising.

Last year the only cars behind the McLarens in qualifying speed where the Manors. This year, one of the cars made 9th, that's a pretty decent improvement.
