I gave it a 2/10. Yet another boring race. Those idiots at Force India need their heads banging together. Not only are they costing the team points and money but they could cause a serious accident. Perez was way out of order for squeezing his team mate like that.

Kimi needs a slap. He's now spouting off about his penalty but, crucially, is admitting he saw the yellows and didn't slow, just claiming that, as the car was apparently behind the barrier, there was no point slowing.

This is beyond belief. He's always been an arrogant **** but now seems to think he knows better than the race director and should be able to choose which flags he obeys depending on what he can see from the cockpit.

Ferrari need to clip him round the ear and get him to apologise to Charlie and the marshals for potentially endangering their lives. How does this **** still have a seat, always hated him and his attitude.

Verstappen when is he going to get a break, want to see some of his crazy over takes.
Alonso entertaining on the radio.

Kimi's penalty was undoubtedly heavy. I see others criticising him because he didn't lift through a yellow flag zone, and wasn't ready to avoid a car... but the others must only have breathed out of the throttle for a moment - Kimi was actually further behind Bottas than before they went through the yellow!

Was any other driver any better? In any better a position to avoid marshals or a car?

It's utterly ridiculous that an acknowledgement of double-yellows is classed as probably a tenth of a second lost. Yet Kimi was handed a 10 second stop/go because he might have gained that tenth? The whole yellows rule need a complete overhaul so all drivers respect them.

The way to get drivers to respect them is to dish out stern punishment... which is what they did here.

The current unknown is what constitutes a lift. Clearly 1/10th isn't suitable, so they should mandate a maximum speed through a double yellow sector, e.g. 150kph

How Kimi got a penalty and perez didn't for safety I don't know.
Perez should have absolutely had licence points for that. He's become quite the douche of late

Also, was palmer just terrible again, or did he have a problem?

Can't stand him either but people seem to spout how 'ice cool' he is and what not, when in reality he's just a dull, arrogant and boring as hell in the personality stakes.

Unfortunately a slight lift is all that is required.
In the driver briefing they should say from now on you need a massive lift and if you don't give a penalty. Wonder if they could do something with the VSC to ensure a maximum speed through the affected area.

They tested a Le Mans style slow-zone before they introduced the VSC, but decided, as I remember, that with drivers waiting until the very last minute before braking heavily, that it was more likely to cause further issues as it heightened the chances of a driver losing control.

It just sounded like a lot of rubbish really (probably not wanting to be seen to copy the ACO) that could easily have been side-stepped if they had wanted to, but "oh no, we'll come up with our own better (worse) system".

He wasn't handed a penalty for gaining a tenth, he was handed it because he blatantly ignored a yellow flag.

All drivers did respect the rule though, except one, who received a well deserved penalty.

I don't know if you've spotted that Le Mans is slightly longer than the average F1 track. The slow zones have specific start positions on the entry to corners that could be quite some way before the actual problem and then back to racing speed at the exit of a corner once clear of the problem. You would end up with slow zones that cover a considerable chunk of an F1 track so it makes sense to have a VSC instead.

I quote enjoyed parts of the race - gave it a 6 for the midfield action, increasingly annoyed Alonso on the radio and the pace of Hamilton and Vettel just being head and shoulders above everyone else. Really interesting reading about the tactics Hamilton used to keep Vettel behind him at the safety car restart.

Back from Spa yesterday

Race was a tad lame but still good to watch the circuit was Max mad and Vettel.

Not many Lewis fans about but the last 10 laps made for interesting viewing. Have been to spa for the last 5 years prices are going up and up not sure on next year if the racing is going to be like this year.

Good controlled race from Lewis, otherwise it wasn't the most eventful.

Seems to me Ferrari had the edge here despite being slower in qualy, even in dirty air Vettel was able to follow close behind and set fastest laps, straight line speed seemed to have just about saved Mercedes with some smart driving from Lewis, but it was very close.

If Ferrari could find more pace in qualifying and I think they would be unstoppable.
