Benefits to be a pirate gamer :(

Mate of mine has a flashed 360 and seriously it is ****** me off at the moment. He got GTA 2 days before release. Theres a custom disk for Guitar hero 3 with loads of new songs that are really good.

He can play online and it costs him nothing but bandwidth and blank disks to get new games.

I've gone completely legit and get a raw deal. It sucks :(

The difference is that he's breaking the law and you're not.

If you have no qualms with breaking the law then you might as well just do the same thing he's doing, but if you do have qualms with breaking the law then you can rest easy knowing you're at least making the moral choice and can consider the expenses "treating yourself."

Are you looking for us to tell you its ok to become a pirate or something?

hahaha no, I dont need support to decide if I wanted to download games or not. Just pointing out that those pirating the games are getting more benifets than us buying the actual games. Wanted to vent my frustratation!

How can he play online for free?

Even if Xbox Live didn't detect the modified 360, surely he still needs to pay for a subscription.

XBL is only £24 a year if you know where to look, getting a game 2 days before release? Whoopie Do !

But lets just say that if his xbox goes pop, Microsoft won't repair it.

I remember seeing GTA 4 on rapidshare, it was a 64 parts in 100m file ! I'd rather pay £40 and get legit than download all that, too much hassle.

Just remember that game developers need a salary too, to go home to their wives and kids, and put food on the table. Yes that's a very old fashioned and simple way of looking at things, but it's also the most accurate.

You can still play games online even with a backup. Also if the 360 does break they're not hard to repair and even if you can't repair they're not exactly expensive anymore.

It's the risk the pirates take.

It's just a shame that 90% of the sales money goes to the retailers and publishers. Still, profit in the video games industry far surpasses that of the movie industry. The fact that pc games sell for half the price of console games demonstrates the huge markups being made. The poor developer story just doesn't add up, hundreds of thousands pirate and profits remain sky high, while everyone knows this piracy will be rampant, no one wants to be ripped off or made a fool of by paying £50 for a game that cost <£5 to make.

You also got to remember how much more ££ you have spent on real games compared to him, he could spend a few notes for a brand new console and still be quids in.

IMO, im not against piracy for personal use, but i do think that if you enjoy a game then the developers deserve your money and that you should pay for it so they can continue to make good games.

Yep, decent games will get gamers support. The sales of past/present GTA games prove this.
