bent cpu pins

Using a credit card sounds like a winner. Much easier than using tweezers..

True, but I did only have the one pin. Was nice and simple with the tweezers. But hey, whatever works for you at the end of the day. :D

My brand new Opty 146 got bent much worse than that one in pic, about half the pins were bent and about 1/4 totally flat.

I had just fitted it and removed to check contact and was about to re-apply AS - wandered into toilet to get some bogroll and somehow managed to drop the chip into the bog, ha ha ha. It bounced off the seat rim first I think - which is what did the damage.

I needed a progressive set of "tools" for that.
A fine razor blade to get under the totally flat slection of pins.
A thin kitchen knife for step 2
and a thicker butter knife and screwdriver - which were about pin width apart.

Once they were all standing, could do rows at a time, "ploughing the gaps"

Took a while but managed to get them all back to shape.......and then had to let it dry out a bit, lucky the bog was clean at the time.....he he.

AMD really need to use LGA!

Thankfully they've made the switch with Socket F and all other future ones:) . Having 1207 pins would be even more of a nightmare

For future refference use a pizza cutter (rolling type) between the gaps. It straightens em out ;)

i remember with one of my cpus installing it i ended up dropping it, and bending the whole of one corner. i almost cried but after about 1hr of straightening the pins with a small flathead screwdriver and my eyes hurting the cpu dropped into place and it was fine :p
