Bent CPU Pins?

Hi guys, so I replaced my MSI P55 GD80 board with a H55 GD65 so that I could have the video output, and sold my old GD80 board on eBay. I know a lot of you hate eBay, and I am not a big fan either, but I didn't know where else to sell and I cant get into members Market yet.

So anyway, the guy got it the other day and has now sent me a message, in fairly bad English, saying the CPU pins are "bend so bad the motherbourd is usless". Now I have a pic I took of the socket when I was selling and I cant find any bent pins anywhere. This guy might be trying to pull a fast one?

What do you guys think, can you find any bent pins?

Yeah, this is the message he sent
"hello i received the motherbourd in the post the otherday and ive just had a chance to have a look at it and im not verry happy as all the cpu pins are bend so bad the motherbourd is usless i find this highly desressing. i havent temperd with it in any way i simply took off the cpu protector and inspected and i doubt the damage was done in transit in witch case idd like to send the item back to you and receive a full refund"

He got the board yesterday, according to Royal Mail, and he just sent this message this morning. Possible it was his fault, if you guys think they look fine? The board was in absolutely perfect condition when I sent it I know for sure.

Yeah I might ask him to send me a pic of the so called bent pins.

True the pic was taken a while ago but that was when i initially took the pics to put on eBay and it took a month or two to sell. It was sitting in its box, inside another box ready for shipping the whole time I was waiting.

Yeah I will take more pics of stuff in the future, I have one of the whole board, and one close up, and a few of the accessories and packaging.

I am not sure if I have the serial number or not, I was going to note it down but was in a hurry when I sent it and forgot :S I do have a bunch of numbers from stickers all over the top of the board though. Not sure if one is the serial.

I am quite confident that if there is a problem it was his fault. I could be wrong but I don't think he is just swapping out for his broken one, as he asked a bunch of questions about features and accessories before he bought.

What would happen if he still demands a refund and I refuse. If he elevates this to a case am I likely to lose out? Are they more likely to side with him, even though I have pics?

I hate eBay too, but there is not really anywhere else I can sell.

Date sold was Thursday April 14th, Dispatched the same day via Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery. Delivered: "Your item with reference AH*********GB was delivered from our EPSOM Delivery Office on 15/04/11."

So looks like he got it next day, which was Friday, and he only now says it is broken?

He replied saying he cant take a picture:
"its hard for me to take a picture of somthing so small. then how did the pins get bent ? as all i did was open box to inspect the motherbourd and the first thing i did was check the cpu pins i took the brown protective plate off (pulled upwards) and could see strait away they were all bent downwards as if somthings been forced down ?? and the damage hasent came from shipping or by me its inpossible. i even thought na this cant be right maybe its me but after consideration i come to the conclusion that it is 100 percent inposible i did it !!! the only way it could have got damaged is by you when you putt the plastic protective plate on. or you bought a damaged motherbourd and are trying to sell it on to other people to make some money back. or you just broke the moptherbourd your self and are trying to make money iligaly i.e selling a broken motherbourd label'd working idd just like to send you the motherbourd back and get a refund please so i can by anouther 1"

I'm not going to refund him as it was fine when I sent it. I am going to assume he will escalate this to a case. Can anyone tell me what is likely to happen?

Thanks for all the tips guys. I have transferred the money out of PayPal as, being a student I kind of really needed it, which is why this is so annoying.

I will inform him that the pins should be at an angle, although he does say this is like his third gaming rig he has built, but it does sound odd, he said "but i mean 1156 pins are bent downwards and some look like a dogs chewd on them", which does support the fact he says 'ALL' pins, so he might not know they should be at an angle, but then he goes on to say it is so bad it is like something chewed on them, which is impossible as I have no pets and I certainly didn't decide to have a munch on it.

I will tell him I am not doing a thing without picture evidence sent, and I think I will contact eBay and give them a heads up.

Well, this is the picture he managed to take:

It is not so great, but I think I can see where the pins are supposed to be damaged. This is not evident at all on m picture, so I really don't know what happened here. I have asked if it is possible for him to take a better picture, and perhaps help point them out by highlighting damaged areas.

Holy crap I believe you are right! Looking at the bigger picture of my board I believe that screw bit, where the CPU cage clips under, is also different?

Either way, I think that is evidence enough. I will send this straight to eBay! Would I have to tell both eBay and PayPal?

This really is an amazing development! I cannot thank you all enough, especially you WingZero! I am determined to win this for all sellers who are being screwed over by scammers! I think this may be the last time I use eBay now though.

Thanks again, I will keep you all informed of how it goes if you are interested.

*Now that you mention that link WingZero, that clip part does look similar, where mine is more silvery and rounded in the middle, the buyers pic looks similar to the DFI one, where it is almost bronzed and has that star shape in the middle. I am not sure if it is that exact board though, as the white lines appear to be missing, however I am pretty sure this guy is still a scammer! Cheers!

Thanks a lot guys, I have send a message to eBay with a tonne of evidence, explaining the whole situation. Hopefully things will pan out well. I haven't replied to the buyer yet, should I tell him I caught him out and have reported him to eBay?

It is strange though, he has like over 100 positive feedback at 100%, yet he is clearly scamming, I don't understand how he expects to get away with it, as he would clearly have to send his broken one to me and I would know that it is not the item I sent him.

I too have had a postman sign a package, saying 'letterbox' and simply posting it. Makes sense I suppose, i'd prefer that then him banging on the door making me get out of bed :p

Well, I told eBay, and their reply seemed like a generic response, as if they didn't even read my message. They simply stated that 'sorry the transaction didn't go as smooth as hoped, you stated you would accept returns, so this is how you should do it, thanks'.
I replied telling them again that I will not refund him as it is not my board that is broken. He is keeping my working board and trying to return his broken one to me for a full refund. I just hope they listen this time. eBay are useless!

Ha ha, yes, I do always have his address in the event it doesn't go my way :p

It was just a message to eBay to inform them of this guy in case he took it further, so they hear it from me first. I replied to them saying I was not going to refund him as, like I showed them, it is clearly a different socket.

I then messaged the guy and said I could tell it was different from the one I sent and in no way I was going to refund him, and that I had told eBay about it. He was usually quick to respond yesterday, but I haven't heard from him for several hours now, so I am hoping he got the message and has just admitted defeat and that he got caught. He hasn't filed a claim or anything, he said he preferred not to resort to that, probably because he knew he was wrong, so I'm hoping this is the last of it and he's just chickened out of it. If he does continue this on it will be a real pain in the rear.

Yeah I have cancelled all connections to my bank from PayPal.

After I messaged him early this afternoon saying I caught him out, I have received no word. I just hope he's got the message and will just drop it.

FFS! Heard back from the guy, he is now claiming that the board is not the one described, and wants either a refund or the the correct item shipped out to him, and has escalated to a case. This guy is such a douche! I'll have to contact eBay again and make sure they got all the pics I sent and fully understand the situation. This is P-ing me off now!

Well I'm hoping they wont be taking any money from me anyway. I'll go to the police tomorrow and see what they have to say on the matter. If they think I have a case then I'll let them handle it. This really is a pain in the rear! That money I got from the sale is all I have until May :(

Yeah, I do realize they could come on a forum like this, but to be honest, from the amount of support I have received from you guys it might actually be good for him to see he has been well and truly caught!

I messaged him saying I was glad he did finally send me a pic as now I can see it is a different socket, I was not going to refund and that I had contacted eBay. He then opened the case, stating the item is damaged, and then that it was suddenly not even the one I was supposed to send him, and that it is a different board altogether.

His last two messages have had drastic spelling and grammar changes, so I think since he found out he had been caught he has got someone to help him.

For those who are interested, here is the last message I got from him:
"Dear ******
I can assure you that I have no intention of being sent and item from you that is clearly not as discribed or the one that you have put in the pictures - I state once again - I have recieved a totally different item other than the one that you have uploaded pictures of - maybe you should have a look in your stock and see if you have sent me out the wrong one - As I have already stated I am an honest ebayer and have no intention to de-fraud anyone all I want is the item that I bought from you nothing more, nothing less. I am NOT a trader, I am just a guy that is looking for a part for my PC simple as that I paid you good money and entrusted that I would be getting just what I paid for. I have opened a dispute through ebay and have taken advise. I would be grateful if you would stop suggesting that I "accept being caught out" as if Im not being honest Im taking great offence at this statement. I fear it is not I that Is being "caught out".
I would respect you doing the right thing and send me the part that I ordered or a full refund simple as that."

All this chat has been done through eBay mail, so they have on record all that has been said, as well as him linking the pic of the different socket. I am going to print it all out, as well as all the pics, and take it with me to the Police station when I leave in like, an hour. It is just up the road from me, so quite convenient actually.

Oh my God! I LOVE you guys! :D

I had totally missed that! Just another piece of evidence to add to the already stacked amount :)

I got an email from eBay, after sending them about 3 or 4 myself, and they did say that they are taking note of what I have sent them. I will message them again stating this new evidence, as well as referencing the case number, so they know which case it is for.

I went to the police that day, and they said that at the moment it is not fraud, he is just 'trying' to commit fraud. They said that in the eventuality that eBay to side with him and I have to give a refund, then they can act, as long as he does anything other than send me back my board, in perfect condition as like when it was sent, with all accessories. So, if eBay side with him and I refund his money, if he either fails to return my item, that is theft, if he send my item back damaged, that is damage to property, or if he sends me a different item to the one I sent him, that is theft/fraud. They didn't say that exactly but that is essentially what they were implying. They didn't see the evidence I had but they said that with the amount of evidence I say I have if it does turn into a police matter I should have nothing to worry about and I should have a good case.

I can't believe how stupid this guy is, I really hope eBay side with me on this one, if they don't then they truly are a bunch of idiots. I hope they do as it would avoid all the extra hassle. If they don't I am tempted to go to the papers with this, 'eBay sides with scammers, don't give a crap about their sellers' :p

Thanks a lot guys, I have missed everything you guys have pointed out, so I would not be this far without you, your help has been invaluable! Cheers! I'll keep you posted if you want to know how this pans out.

Well the 10 days are up and today I escalated the case to eBay customer support. I re-wrote the entire explanation detailing how I know he is trying to scam me, stating I can provide evidence if necessary. I didn't want to bombard them again with all the links to the pictures so instead I referenced the case number for the report I filed against him over a week ago now.

A couple of hours later and I receive a massage from eBay:

Customer support has made a final decision and has asked the buyer to return the item to you for a full refund. 30 Apr, 2011 at 15:00
Final decision:
This case was decided in the buyer's favour.
Customer support comments:
For more information about this case, please refer to the email we sent you.
We passed this return information to the buyer.

Absolute 'base-tards', I don't think they even looked at the case at all. I am going to reply to the case I reported a week ago, as there they actually said they would take note of what I have sent them, and I will also contact the buyer telling him I have gone to the police on the matter and if I get anything other then my item returned to me in perfect condition as sent then they will be taking over the case.

A real pain in the rear, but I had a feeling eBay weren't going to listen.

Well if he does send me anything other than the item I sent him, in the same condition as was sent, then I'm just going to the police. However I am hoping I may not have to, just got a reply from the message of disappointment I sent to eBay after the verdict.

Hello ********,

Thanks for getting in touch about the item.

We're anxious to help you sort this out, but need more information to
review the case in full and provide you with a specific response.

Please reply to this email to let us know:

- The item number(s) of the item(s) in question
- Your eBay user ID and the user ID(s) of the other member(s)
- Any other information you think might help us resolve this

As soon as we hear back from you we'll start looking into this.

Kind regards,

eBay Customer Support

Perhaps they are willing to listen after all? I'm still not holding my breather however.

No nothing to report. After eBay emailed me saying they are anxious to help, I sent them the full report again, with all evidence. Not heard back yet. I have also not received my item back yet, or any indication that it has been sent. I am hoping that this is because eBay have told him not to do anything yet while they review the case properly.

Haven't heard from either eBay or buyer, but no money has been taken either. Really hope this is sorted soon, and in my favor, this is happening right in exam period!!

Mother-Fudger!

Knock knock at the door this morning at 8:45, which I open to find parcelforce there with a rather large package for me. I open it up to find my motherboard returned to me. I am almost certain this is my one. Although I didn't take down the serial number, I was in a hurry and forgot, pictures show all the stickers on the board match up perfectly, even their positioning and slight wear, and the box is definitely the same, and those serials match up, so I think it is the board I sent him.

So, I carefully take everything out, taking pics of the process as I go, and finally get to the CPU socket. I remove the cover and what do I find?

Those pins have been absolutely destroyed!! Not only that it looks like there are a load of scratches on the resistors in the middle! What the hell did this guy do to it?!?!?! I can only assume that as a last resort, after I told him I have evidence, everything documented etc, he felt he had to return my item I sent him, but that meant it had to be damaged, and went ape-**** on it!

Haven't heard back from eBay yet but I am definitely going to the Police with this, that is completely unacceptable! The annoying thing is I am in exam period. I have an exam on Wednesday, my report due Thursday, and two more exams and a presentation the week after. I don't know when I will have time to do all this. I don't want to wait too long. I think I should be able to finish my report by the weekend, so will go to the Police then.

This has completely ruined my day and it has barely started!
