Yea hes 21, got a power house of a 320 coupe BMW :)

If you dont at least put him on it for a few days (the insurance) you are eevil :D Although the danger after that is that he wants to bin the 320 and get a fast car, which he will promptly crash.

He can drive it round in circles on the drive :)

Nah, i'l put him on the insurance.

This thread is so funny, the way people are all over this like a rash despite previous "nah for footballers m8" type comments. Nothing like a good old bit of lack of experience with something, hopefully the meet will make people see WHY footballers buy them, because they are damn good cars :)

I find it strange how you feel qualified to comment on someones exposure to a car when you have no idea how much time they may have spent with one.

Interesting stuff indeed.

I feel qualified because you hear the opinions of the inexperienced all of the time. Only to find (to much amusement) that when put face to face with one, they completely change their tune.

Thing is, if you start discounting footballers cars it dont leave much choice.

Maserati, forget them, a dozen outside Crystal Palace every training session. So many they must be on a buy one get one free offer.

Porsche, well for obvious reasons thats them out.

Ferrari, give them a miss, too many in the West end.

BMW and Mercedes? Dont make me laugh, even the referee has got one of those.

So whats left, i know, i'l buck the trend and buy that smart car with the Rolls Royce grille, that will be unique.

Ah cool, i know exactly wha you mean about someones viewpoint shifting when they actually get exposure to the car in question.

Personally I think the GT is a cracking place to be but when spending that much cash i would find it hard to ignore the cars image or rear profile.

Now i understand that both of these are very much personal preferences, its an amazing car but for me its spoilt by those two details.

So from this and the above can we conclude that footballers have ruined everything? :p

Pretty much, footballers have loads of money, therefore they buy all of the best cars, leaving their reputation in shatters :p

Out of interest, what would you prefer for the budget? There is nothing as good as far as i am concerned as an all round package. The interior in the big VAG's are gorgeous, and the engine is a masterpiece which eclipses anything porsche offer (along with the interior package). Going italian isnt the same prospect as a usable daily...

What else is there? There are high end mercs, but even as a fan of merc's i honestly wouldn't buy one in preference to a Bentley.

In truth i'm not sure, i've not really been in anything that i'd consider a real GT rival so i've got no real grounds to form an opinion on the opposition.

For the same money i'd love to say Aston V8 Vantage but as we know you can't really class that as a rival, nor can you really class something like a Gran Turismo, in some respects the GT is in a class of its own, for long distance drives its fantastic, the engine isn't made out of chocolate and from most angles it looks good.

I suppose it all depends on which grounds you've decided to buy the GT, if you don't want it for its long distance ability then i'd be happy to choose something thats more of a compromise.

What is your opinion of the V8 vantage directly in comparison with a DB9? We tested a couple back to back at stratstone and we felt that the vantage was very weak in comparison. I would never buy one, it feels like a baby aston. And to me that is not what i want for a large outlay.

The DB9 is a stunningly gorgeous car. But its not as good as the Bentley GT imho as an all round package.

Not had the luxury of going in both cars side by side and my limited experience is separated by a year or so, whilst the V8 vantage seems like a massively smaller car on the road (from a dimension point of view) whilst sat in the front i didn't feel i was compromised on space quite to the degree i was expecting, build quality seemed much the same between (from memory) problem is from a driving point of view i've got no idea how they feel on the move vs eachother, most of my car exposure is via people high up in OMV and Shell so i don't get to drive them.

From a price point of view i'm not sure how the cars compare, i assume a secondhand DB9 to be more than a secondhand V8?

I know its not the same but the best come back I have heard to someone making a ridiculous statement was when someone shouted "Couldn't afford a red one?" to someone in a silver Ferrari and the person said in reply "What colours yours?"

I don't really understand the criticism of it being a footballers car, oh boo hoo, my car is also driven by sporting celebrity's who earn millions a year.

That statements so stupid it didn't even need a comeback.
