I've heard the ax1200 is sort of loud in idle as its fan spins at a minimum of around 1200rpm (140mm fan) and it has ball bearings

If you mean the ax1200i then it should be pretty quiet

What spec will it be powering?

Check the be quiet dark pro 10, they're even quieter but much more expensive and not fully modular.

Check the be quiet dark pro 10, they're even quieter but much more expensive and not fully modular.

I wanted the RM 1000 but its pre order at the moment hence having to make do (had to order all the bits, long story but couldnt wait). noticed the 850w one is now in.

Im not bothered what I have but would like it quiet

Personally I'd go for the evga g2 as I'm a sucker for 80+ gold and it has a 10 year warranty.

It won't be as quiet as the be quiet at lower loads, but will likely be quieter when pushed hard due to the gold rating outputting less heat.

If the corsair has already been dispatched , try it first and if its too loud then dsr it. Maybe it will be quiet enough for you.
