Berlin - Food?

Having a weekend in Berlin early March.

Anyone recommend foody / drinky places to check out whilst there?

4 days, 3 nights.

In other news I've been to Berlin and food wise there was indeed a lot of sausage, fatty pork knuckle and sauerkraut, which isn't really my sort of thing.

I went to Berlin, got a curried sausage and just as I was about to eat it the coach was starting up for the next part of the Hitler Tour and I had to put it in the bin

I went McDonalds a bit later.

I am not going to be searching sausage.

Thinking more modern stuff.

There is a Mich star in the hotel but looking at something a bit different, doing interesting new stuff really, perhaps one of those places heading for stardom etc.

Every variety of hipster food joint in Berlin. Just wander around and try places....everything from vegan stuff to American diners. Currywurst is....currywurst, you can make it at home easy enough (sausage + ketchup + curry powder). Proper doner kebab is worth doing though.

Block House is a very popular steakhouse in Berlin, on Alexanderplatz, people queuing each night. Decent and never had a bad meal.

Block House is a very average chain, tried the one in Düsseldorf when I lived there. Certainly wouldn't bother with a special visit, unless you really really want an overpriced, average steak.

Just go to Berghain and Kit Kat club. Who cares what you eat.

Seriously though, kebab is amazing there.

Which hotel?

We stayed at the Hotel Zoo and the restaurant in there was very good, although this was back 2014

It took a while to pick one. We were bouncing around between hotel or apartment as I tend to prefer the freedom of apartments on city breaks. However we have gone with the Ritz-Carlton because it has lots to offer, decent dining and funky bar as well as a pool and Spa etc. Having said that we also want to walk and see stuff so it's a balance, hence the food asks.

It's been 5 years since we were last there, however I remember there was a row of nice restaurants overlooking the river Spree. We ate at dusk and it was great looking out at the river when it's all lit up.

I remember having a nice bowl of ramen, was just walking around, also found a really cool ice cream shop too!

Nothing really fancy on this trip, your standard Snictzel and currywurst
