Ah… That might be the reading I remember. Don’t know why I thought Jackanory would allow Poe’s dark stuff on a kid’s TV show.

I know him from this (as well as other things like Dr Who), as was one of my Son's favourite shows

Because kids never used to be wrapped in cotton wool.

I remember him best for a reading of Poe’s “The Raven” on Jackanory which was proper scary at the time.

He was very good at engaging kids imaginations I remember being enthralled whenever he told a story on jackanory.
