On the radio this morning this guy came on and said one of the jokes Manning did was get all the black guys in the front row of the audience to stand up then Manning mimicked a firing squad shooting at them.
To those who have seen him: what were the most borderline jokes he did, you think?

That's the point, his attitude was that he made jokes out of everyone, despite their background, so he wasn't a racist. The 'joke' you mentioned could be attributed to anyone (Manning doing a gig in Cardiff and lining up English, a gig in Carlise and lining up Scottish) it just didn't matter.
He was the last of the old school comedians who didn't have to rely on pulling faces or prancing round the stage like some of the so called comedians we have now. His humour was full of insults to race & religion but he steered clear of certain subjects such as relating to womens biological functions etc.
I've got several of his books & videos at the back of the cupboard & I must refresh my memory as to just how funny he really was : I'm glad I'm not bisexual, I couldn't stand being rejected by men as well as women

No, he mocked eveyone, including himself. He also did a great deal of charity work and was well known for helping people out with his own money and not on the back of some dodgy appearance fee.KNiVES said:

There's an obituary in the Daily Mail today, he wrote it himself. Wonder if it gets published in the Guardian too.
He had happy relations with his black neighbours & sent a sick Asian child he heard about locally on a no-publicity trip to Disneyland, gave money privately to anti-racist groups and was a major benefactor of Jewish charities in Manchester.
