He was one of the greats in my mind, fearless with what he said, shrugged off criticism and laughed at everyone despite their race, religion or sex.
RIP.

Did he take the p*** out of white people? When you say everyone was it just minorities or everyone? i dunno ive barely heard of him.
On the radio this morning this guy came on and said one of the jokes Manning did was get all the black guys in the front row of the audience to stand up then Manning mimicked a firing squad shooting at them.
To those who have seen him: what were the most borderline jokes he did, you think?
~J~ said:Everyone.
That's the point, his attitude was that he made jokes out of everyone, despite their background, so he wasn't a racist. The 'joke' you mentioned could be attributed to anyone (Manning doing a gig in Cardiff and lining up English, a gig in Carlise and lining up Scottish) it just didn't matter.
No, he mocked eveyone, including himself. He also did a great deal of charity work and was well known for helping people out with his own money and not on the back of some dodgy appearance fee.KNiVES said:Good riddance, one less racist bigot in the world. He preached to the masses far more potently than people like Abu Hamza ever will.
Everyone except the white middle classes mate. Just Jim Davidson and Roy Chubby Brown to go now.
Quoted for truth - absolutely spot on. Brilliant post.AJUK said:No, he mocked eveyone, including himself. He also did a great deal of charity work and was well known for helping people out with his own money and not on the back of some dodgy appearance fee.
One small example of just how racist he was - he ripped the hell out of a black guy and his misses who were unfortunate enough to be in the front row at one of his shows. Not only did the couple almost wet themselves at his act but afterwards he spent an hour or so with them buying bottles of champagne for them (he didn't drink btw). What an evil racist **** he was.
It is called comedy and god help us all when blinkered people with your attitude finally get their way and none of us will laugh again. It is people like you that encourage nutjobs like Hamza, it is certainly not a COMEDIAN playing to a paying audience that know what they are paying for before they buy the tickets.
Nothing is taboo as far as art goes and comedy is certainly one of the hardest of the performing arts and the gift of laughter afforded to us as humans is wasted on some people because they are so insecure with themselves that they need to find fault in others where there is none.
Did you draw the conclusion yourself that Manning was a racist bigot or are you just following your programming?

Mrs Merton said:Bernard, are you racist?
Bernard Manning said:Yes, yes I am. There were no ****'s at Arnhem. There were no ****'s at D-Day. They didn't help us one bit. They fought for themselves, and themselves only.

Manning was not racist or bigoted and his shows were full of ethnics because of it.
He picked on everybody.
