Best 2.1 system around? Find me!

Rochdale, you bought something and you like it. Very good.

-Ad-, given the same decision, you would have bought something else. Very good.

For anyone else reading and about to make similar decisions, I concur with -Ad-.

It's a £13 cherry keyboard and built like a brick

Not wanting to change the course of this discussion, but how is your cherry keyboard and what model is it?

I've heard they are probably some of the most robust keyboards, used by many POS terminals. Some had price tags over £100 which I found a little ridiculous.

It's a G85 in black. Laptop style keys are great for typing but still getting used to it for gaming. Not as easy to tell where you are on the keyboard without looking, as they are obviously flat so not protruding like the keys on a normal keyboard. Getting used to it though.

It is the most robust keyboard I have ever felt, and reminds me of a hi-end watch vs casio. Stunning build, great plastics, and the tolerances are very high on all parts. Will never go back to some gimmicky saitek or logitech gamer thing with LED screen ZOMGZOR :D

Great for bashing people over the head with :D:D:D

The aegos are great (I'm not a sound buff mind, so my ear isn't quite trained to audiophile levels :p)

Took em to a house party in summer, people laughed at their size. After hearing them, and how loud they go I know of at least 2 people who bought a set!

Had em for 2 and a bit years now, and still would not contemplate changing them for my PC/laptop music uses!

I was surprised at the sound the first time I heard them a few years back. I know a few people who have them and they all say they wouldn't swap them for anything. A great little 2.1 system :)

Mmm, interesting...i heard the Bose but the guy couldn't find the volume device thingy - he said someone may have stolen it - so it was stuck on one VERY loud sound level!

This was the 2.1...i may try and ease back though, quite expensive and my student house has very thin walls... :o

Please for the love of god don't buy a BOSE system. They are stupidly overpriced, I mean stupidly overpriced, and use low quality materials and drivers in their speakers.

Don't get me started on their surround systems that have gaps in the frequency range meaning you won't even be able to hear certain sound sin games and movies, plus their showrooms have a lot of expensive kit behind the scenes hooked up to said speaker systems, making them sound great in the showroom but a lot less so when you get them home.

They quote 25hz but that will be the -10db point, not a very honest way to quote it. They do spec 40-18,000hz +/-2.5db however so your more typically used -3db point will be close to 40hz. I think the Logitechs use -6db for thiers (not listed but simulations of the driver in a similar box show this) but in Hi-Fi you usually see -3db; it's what I'd use :)

I reckon my ass get more spl out of it after a korma!:D

Hey man, what did you end up getting? I decided to get the AE system after reading various reviews (and this thread!) and they really are excellent value. They lack midrange punch slightly, but they are extremely easy to listen to, and they're better than anything else i've heard at their price point.

i think if its sound quality you want then go for the AE, from what ive heard the razer things are not best sound quality wise, just stupidly loud.

Leaning towards the AE at the moment! :)
It's for Xmas.

Good man, great starter system when moving up from pc speakers. Next step will be hi-fi separates, then you will want big floorstanders and a pre/power amp combo in no time. You wallet will hate you.

As long as you don't go for the razers then it's all good. For that money you could have the z5500 which are very good value for a 5.1 system. But they arn't soo good for music, just too much bushy bass and piercing highs, with no midrange.

Have a good xmas and I hope santa brings you the AEs :D

Have any of you heard about the aego m centre speaker? I can't find it to buy anywhere. And how would a 3.1 system work?

I've had the AE speakers for about a year or so, very good speakers. Only little nag is that at low volume (very low, so you can talk over it, i.e. when on the phone :)) sound comes out the left speaker louder than the right, which is a bit weird.

That's odd, I don't get that with mine.

Yeah have a feeling its only mine as it seems a bit of a flaw! I think its the channel itself as I swapped the speakers over and it still did it.
