Best 2.1 system around? Find me!

Its not unusual for that to happen, I've had a couple of PC speaker systems that at the extreme low volume will only play via a single channel. I just turned the windows volume down to compensate having the volume on the speakers a little louder.

Yep thats what I did in the end, so its not an issue now. I'll take another look sometime though.

Apart from that I can't fault the speakers :)

Aegos are great, had mine for years. Sound improves as they get played in as well. Re the single channel playback, let the little amp in the aegos do the work, turn windows down and the amp up, keep the levels coming out of the pc low. They are the best pc system I have heard, really well built and remarkable sound for their size. Lots of people claim they are comparable to low end (in hi-fi terms, not argos crap!) bookshelves and I'd agree. The only way you'll get better is to hook your system up to a proper seperates system.

Where's the volume control on aegos? Do you have a wired control on it or do you have kneel down and alter it from the sub?

just another quick vote for the Aego's, had a pair for a couple of years now and they sound stunning.

Good man, great starter system when moving up from pc speakers. Next step will be hi-fi separates, then you will want big floorstanders and a pre/power amp combo in no time. You wallet will hate you.

As long as you don't go for the razers then it's all good. For that money you could have the z5500 which are very good value for a 5.1 system. But they arn't soo good for music, just too much bushy bass and piercing highs, with no midrange.

Have a good xmas and I hope santa brings you the AEs :D

Ignoring the fact you think the razer speakers are overpriced, do you honestly think the Aego's are better? You probably havent heard both but going by specs etc, which ones should be better in your opinion?

I bought a set of the Razer speakers a while ago and I havent been disappointed. The only thing Ive been disappointed with so far is my sound card :( lol which seems a bit flaky in some areas.

The razer speakers are probably overpriced but none of the alternative equivalents really seem to be that appealing so I dont really care. We all pay extra for brands we know :/ I know a lot of the time, this type of thing is just rebranded crap but these speakers do genuinely seem pretty good even if they are too expensive hehe.

Before buying them I looked around for reviews etc. Never found any actual head to head tests against other speakers but I did notice something else. People who own them dont have a bad thing to say about them where as the people who criticise them and say they will suck have never heard them lol :/

Its a shame there isnt a proper test out there.

My opinion -

overpriced? yeah :P

sound good? hell yeah :)

look good? definitely!

The Razors do look pretty funky but for the price you could get some far tastyier kit. for the price of them you could buy a half decent stereo amp and speakers. obviously some people dont want all that sat on their desk, but its an option that would sound far better then the 'Pretty' speakers.

If I had £200 to spend and just wanted decent sound without all the box's I would plump for a set of Audioengine 5's. If I had £100 it would be either the Aego system or a par of audioengine 2's.

I plumped for the Aego in the end becuase there sub gives them a little more umph (you could always add a sub to the audioengine though) I can put the sub under my desk and the sats take up hardly any room but sound great for the cash. I dont find having to bend down a fraction to turn the volume up or down a pain in the slighest, where I have the main unit it takes me just as long as it would do if it had a external control box. seriously, its no deal breaker and for the cash you will be amazing how good the little things sound.

When I do upgrade them it will be for the A5s

Hmm yeah, It would be nice to be able to go and test all of these.

Of course buying amps/speakers and allsorts of other crap would produce better sound.

I want a fairly small set of speakers for my PC and the Razers do the job pretty well. They do seem to spread the sound around nicely regardless of where you are in the room.

I could have probably bought a half decent 5.1 or 7.1 set for the money but I dont want speakers and wires all over my room :(

Interesting thread...just what i was looking for.
Live in a flat and need 2.1 system for bedroom....for listening to music as have headphones for games. I dont have soundcard so am looking to get small amp and meaby AE or Razor system. Any advice regarding amp and speaker system would be greatly appreciated

doesnt your comp have on board sound?

i assume it does so just get the AE plug it into the on board on ur comp and thats it. if you want to be able to use the same socket for headphones then it may be an idea to get an extension cable so ur can plug the one u want in at a time.

Yeah have onboard sound, but would like to get something to plug headphones and speakers (still not sure what to go for) at the same time so dont have to swap cables all the time

thanks for your help

assuming money actually is an issue how about a 3.5 mm splitter and plug both into that, getting another sound card and having it play nicely with the on board at the same time should in thoery be fine but they dont always do so
