Hi folks,

After 2 x 2TB drives for massive storage of animation frames so read speeds are going to be important.

here are the priorities:

1) stability/reliability - nothing that has potential issues
2) speed
3) value for money

Sata 2 will be fine. I have Sata3 but would rather not shell out for such expensive drives. Not too bothered about noise either, so no need for one of these eco/green things.

Cheers in advance,

I should ask also if i'm going to have power problems after this upgrade.

here's my spec:

EX-UD5
i7 920 4.0ghz OC
6GB RAM
850W Corsair PSU
GeForce GTX480
SATA6/USB3 controller PCI
Soundblaster X-FI Music PCI

1 x raptor 10k HDD on main UD5 SATA ports
4 x 1TB SATA2 HDDs on main UD5 SATA ports
1 x C300 SSD (on it's own controller card)

Think my system will handle another 2 drives ok? I've not had any problems so far.

It should be fine, check your PSU manufacturers site, they usually include a calculator tool that works out how much load is required by putting your spec on there.

dont get a green drive ive sent mine back according to tech support heres a lot coming back with same prob.
im going to ask the same question as you as well

thanks for the warning!

i'm tempted to go with the seagate XT 2TB 6gbs - i have one free 6gbs port left so might use one in that and use the other XT in a free 3gbs port for now until I can upgrade my mobo to full 6gbs ports. may as well future proof for an extra £30/60.

I don't have enough free ports to buy half-capacity and double up tbh. i'd rather have 2 drives. easier cable management too :)
