Best account and debit/credit/prepaid card for foreign travel?

Ah yeah I totally forgot BarclayCard had entered the market with a wicked card:

lol at my memory. I even swapped my Freedom Points card for one of those.

Oooh I didn't know that, I've been looking for a cashback VISA/Mastercard credit card. This is perfect.

edit - swapped it over, this is much better than the platnium.

I use my Nationwide account. Fee free cash withdrawls on the debit card and free purchases on the credit card, both at the VISA rates.
Same here and has generally been very reliable. I only learnt about the fee free debit card withdrawels last year when we were in Switzerland briefly and got stuck in a situation where needed Cash (so 20th Century!!) so was forced into drawing out cash.

Only issue we had was when in New York last week and the Automated machines to use the Metro System. This is the only time that my cards have been a bit of a PITA at being accepted whilst been abroad. Was OK with everything else we did in USA was just those damm machines! Had to resort to AMEX which then meant i got stung with a fee >:( but did work.

Thanks all. I've decided to open two accounts and seeing how they both fare; Wise and Revolut. I will take my Lloyds debit card with me as a backup in case of problems with those cards. Lloyds is a Visa Debit and Wise/Revolut appear to be Mastercard Debit. So I think I will have all bases covered with them.

Chase and Revolut have been my combo to cover all international transactions.

Revolut works especially good if you're travelling in a group and want to split bills along the way

I use a combination of Halifax Clarity, Revolut, and Wise... but it's probably more complicated than it needs to be. For just travel, you would probably be better off picking up the Halifax Clarity, especially if you already have a Halifax account.

Since I'm in a constant state of travel I have about 8-10 different travel cards.

Barclaycard Rewards for foreign spending and books over £100 for the protection but also 0.3% cashback (I know pitiful), but I changed to it myself. Still have the Clarity as a back up.

Otherwise I use a mixture of Chase, Starling. Not sure what will happen with Chase now. They already had a huge list of exemptions for the 1% Cashback, and now the offer has ended I'll need to check the t&c to see if it's still worth using.

I don't really bother with Monzo or Revolt these days.

Other suggestions in the article below include HSBC's Global Money Account, which might be useful for those with a HSBC account.

I like revolut as it keeps my holiday spend separate and I can do so much from the app. Stolen or lost? Just lock it. It's weird it's not a standard feature.

But yeah, had revolut for ages. Don't see a reason to change it

I think right now...

1- Barclaycard Reward for spending - No fees, cashback, credit card protection.

Is there another card that offers Credit card protection, with no fees and cashback? However small that is.

I think Amex has a cashback card but it will have fees, Halifax clarity has no fees but has no cashback. None of the Revolut or Wise has cashback, or the protection of a credit card.

2 - If I need to withdraw cash, then I can use my phone to move the cash to Monzo or Starling on the spot, then withdrawal in an ATM. (within their daily limit)

I just use a CaxtonFX card when abroad.

Load it with whatever currency I need from the app and withdraw from cash machines or use contactless in shops.

You can even convert your balances between currencies if you need to.

I also use it for paying for items from abroad in their currency whilst in the UK (buy something in $ from a US website while in UK)

You can lock/unlock from app too

You do get charged a small fee if you don't use it once every 12 months mind you (loading a currency counts)

I use Revolut and Monzo.

Don't forget to get referral links as i think Revolut is worth £50 each.

Personal referral for Revolut are referrer chain only. i.e. only the referrer gets any money. Plus there's a whole bunch of hoops to jump through, that make it unlikely the person being referred will even qualify, and so saving Revolut from paying out.

Looking at my Revolut app now - "You can earn £50 each for each friend you refer!"

Yes but if you're doing number 2 you may as well use Revolut because you can (if used correctly) avoid weekend extra charges.
